Help promote Central and Eastern Oregon Rock Crawling

Target:
People interested in the sport of Rock Crawling
Sponsored by:

As the sport of Rock Crawling contiunes to expand throughout the country, the quest for difficult trails continues to grow. Oregon, like many other states, has its share of 4x4 trails ranging from easy to moderate. Oregon's local rock crawlers along with the Deschutes County 4 Wheelers want to do our part to show Government organizations that there is a demand for difficult Rock Crawling trails throughout our area. Policy makers are unaware of the large number individuals involved in our sport of Rock Crawling.  They are also unaware of what type of trails suit the needs of many of todays current rock crawling vehicles.  By signing this petition you are showing your support for the sport of rock crawling and the need for maintaining current trails and the construction of new challenging trails throughout Central and Eastern Oregon.

we love wheelin n oregon. browns camp in tillamook forest, for example offers some of the best wheelin i have ever done. this weekend, cascade cruisers club put on an event. as one of the first 3 trucks through, i was on the look out for garbage, and i am glad to say i found very little. it made me feel good that there are so many responsible drivers out there that respect the forest and dont trash it.

theres a lot of areas open for everything else like, bicycling, hiking, rafting, camping, fishing, snow mobiling, etc. but theres really not much for four wheeling. Its about time we get some more trails. we bring a lot of revenue to these small towns, when we roll in with our rigs. OPEN MORE TRAILS PLEASE.

Rock Crawling is a way to get out and away from reality, and develop a thick skin. It brings people together and can help keep trails in good condition.

Here is a copy of my post to the Land Cruiser Forum: Fish Lake (Near Olallie Lake) I'm pretty sure this was open a few years ago and you could drive up to the lake. They have now closed it with rocks and tank traps at the intersection with the power line road. It's now walk-in only from power-line road. Also the power line road has been improved and could be driven by just about anything at this point. A couple other things to make my weekend: I found all the upper Breitenbush River remote campsites have been closed this year. The unimproved ones just at the edge of the river in the nice forest a few miles above the Federal Campsites. I got chewed out by a Federal Service Agent for pulling off Skyline road near one of the lakes to look at an unimproved campsite that had a full fire ring and everything. I was only about 50 feet off skyline road on an old road cut that had been used for camping in the past. There was no grass or shrubs on the ground and I didn't even touch a branch on the side of the cruiser there. Oh and last month I drove over the Pueblo Mountains: I called BLM office in advance a couple times, then stopped and talked to three people there in Burns. None of them had ever been to the Pueblo Mountains. Every agent I talked to discouraged me from going up there. “roads are washed out” “fire danger” “very fragile area, we are trying to limit travel” “most of that is wilderness, I think” They would essentially make up lies to discourage me from going up there for some reason. They just don’t want anyone off the main roads anymore.

Public land is public. The rock crawling community are voters, tax payers, business owners, and even politicians. Having places to wheel is essential to our hobby and the buisnesses that support it. Everything from auto part stores to metal distributors make money off of our hobby. Take away our access and they all lose money.

I have been into rock crawling for 5 years. Most of my weeling takes place at fund raisers and trail clean ups. It has always been a positive experience for me. Chris overman 4x4 dirt dragons

I have never been to Oregon but one day I would like to visit and go on some harder rock crawling trails. If there aren't any to go on then I wouldn't see a reason that I would visit Oregon. And if they close too many places to go in my home state of Utah I'm sure that I would move to rarely return. Because rock crawling isn't just recreation for me it's my relaxation and stress release.

Let me say that i am an owner of a soon to be SAS 06 Nissan frontier. That has captured my heart & soul. It has been a great adventure heading off into legal offroad parks. In my quest for a retreat i find alittle more about myself & who i am. This means of an escape is a treat for my family as well. I ask you do what is needed so enthusiast like myself can have somewhere to call our own when we are away from our homes. Thank you fro reading this

Rock crawling is a fun family oriented sport that if done in properly managed areas does not cause damage to the environment and provides good recreational opportunities in places that would otherwise be useless.

rock crawling is a family oriented sport that is still gaining in popularity, and as our population centers become increasingly crowded, the need for places to recreate becomes more critical, yet every land use proposal introduced will deny access to more of our public lands. action must be taken to close the developing rift between the public, and public lands administators, so we can continue to enjoy the sport we love.

as the activity known as rock crawling increases in popularity so do the local and not so local trail heads... traffic on the trails is never fun, so to combat too many people being on the same trails ALL the time more and more trail heads should be planned and built. responsible offroad enthusiasts take care of the forests, it isnt us throwing old couches and what not in the creeks! we are the ones doing clean up and trail maintenance, if you get on a few forums youll soon realize how many people love exploring the vast forests and rock mecca's, maybe youll also see the same few trails being talked about, lets make more theres lots of land on this planet to share

We need to be able to enjoy the wilderness, not be banned, and blocked from accesing it. Also, the dollars spent, on gas, food, lodging, etc... are a good thing for small town economies.

My parent's live in Bend. I plan on spending more time up there and would like to run the trails when I visit. It's a shame that trail closure is becoming more and more common across the country. I think that educating the younger generation of wheelers about proper trail etiquette and respect for our environment would be a better solution than trail closures. Hopefully I can continue to share with my children the beauty of the outdoors in a way that many of us enjoy.

This hobby/sport is getting bigger and bigger every year and more and more people are looking for places to take there rigs. Instead of having them go anywhere and tear up the country side lets keep trails open and create new ones!

I do alot of rock crawling with my family. It is an all year long event, we camp, we learn, we grow together as a family away from all the crud in daily life that makes time together impossible with all the distractions of technology, we spend a good amount of hard earned money in the local small businesses & towns where we trail & camp, we enjoy the comradery of old friend's & look forward to meeting new one's. This is not just for the sport but also for the family & the getting into our great outdoor's. Thank you for your time.
