As of next school year, Meek Head Start, among other preschools controlled by Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, will be closed.  This must not stand.  Our children need all the help they can get.
As of next school year, Meek Head Start, among other preschools controlled by Community Action Partnership of North Alabama, will be closed.  This must not stand.  Our children need all the help they can get.
We the undersigned hereby petition the Community Action Partnership of North Alabama to re-open the Head Start center at Meek school, in Arley, Alabama.  It is crucial that our children get the most opportunities available, and it is too great a distance for many of our children to travel to another of Community Action's Head Start centers.
According to a recent study of Head Start students and their parents (available at www.acf.hhs.gov), students enrolled at a Head Start school experienced better health and education benefits than those going straight into Kindergarten.  While some of these benefits were far greater, any increase in these benefits is well worth pursuing for our children.
Thank you for reading this and giving us your attention and support.  Please reconsider your decision on closing this crucial part of our children's education and give us the help we need to ensure the success of our children's education.

It is terrible for Meek's Head Start to be closing. These children are our future, and their education should be of the utmost importance to our states legislature. Why on earth do we have to cut corners by cutting out something as important as the education of our children? Some children have no other option than to go to headstart first. Many parents depend on the Head Start program to teach our kids the things they need to know in order to start school. I hope this petition gets 10,000 names signed to it, because our government should be ashamed for shutting down anything educational to our children in the first place!!!

My daughter attended Meek Headstart. She received so many benefits from headstart; namely her social skills. The program is an awesome asset to our community. Our children are our future. Many of these children who attend headstart do not receive the positive attention at home that they so desperately need. It is a shame our politicians pocket so much of our tax dollars and it is our children who suffer. Thank you for letting me express my feelings.

I beleive by cutting out headstart in Arley you are going to take away or kids chance at a good "HEAD START" in learning and getting ready for school. Our kids in Arley deserve every chance at a GREAT EDUCATION just like everyone else. I dont care if there are 5 kids or 50 kids in headstart everyone of them deserves the same chance at life. Please dont take away the only " HEAD START" to a great education most of these kids will ever have. We need to stand up for the next generation(OUR KIDS) and help them successed or WHO WILL!!

I belive it is unfair for those children who are in it not to be able to go to the classes. The program has had a big impact on many children. My child was in it for two years. The teachers would also be with out a job. Those children would appreciate it to be able to keep it!

My daughter was able to get regular speech classes and the communication between other students to help with her speech problems. I don't know if she would be as far advanced now if she wouldn't have had the opportunity to attend the head start program. Please take situations like mine into consideration.

As a teacher in the same school system, I have seen the impact that the HeadStart program has on our children. They come to school better prepared. I also know one of the HeadStart teachers at Meek and she is the best! She goes above and beyond to help these kids! Please keep the HeadStart program at Meek. These kids deserve it!

I have personally attended Meek School in the past, and I have seen the results that the head start program has on the younger children who are anticipating their start into kindergarten. They learn so much and are so much more prepared to start kindergarten after they have attended head start. The teachers are well educated and are very dedicated to passing on that knowledge to the next generation. I really hope that it does get re-opened, if not for anybody else but the children.

They should be a head start at Meek school. Children should not have to be driven a hour a way to go to head start, when we can have one here.

My daughter was in headstart last year and she learned so much and was looking forward to going back next year... now she is on a wait list and we do not know when she will be able to go back. She wanted for her teachers to help her learn to read this year!!!

I feel it is very important to keep the head start open. I have in the past had grandchildren attend this head start who have none very well there. I have a grand son that was going to go there this year. Juston Chesser went to Arley head start this past year. It already has helped him in his developing toward being ready to enter school next year. Juston has always been a little bit behind then some other children. what happens to him if he is not able to go back to head start. Would he for sure be ready to go on to kindergarten? Juston also has trouble with his speech . He needs this help.

It break's my heart to see how many children could miss out on going to head start. Three of my grandchildren have gone to the head start there in Arley ,Al. One was to go this coming year. Juston Chesser. It is a proven fact that children who attend head start do so much better when it is time to go on to school. We need to look out for what best for the children. Some mothers can not enroll their children in far off head start classes because of older children already enrolled in meek school.

I have witnessed the amazing results that our children receive from the Meek Headstart Classroom. I hate to think of what some of children will be missing without having that assistance available!!
