Help the suffering bear and other animals at Jambbas Ranch

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners decided to exclude Jambbas Ranch, Fayetteville, NC from the already existing ordinance/law which clearly states that bears (of any bred or hybrid) are not allowed to be held in Cumberland County. Recently, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners added a caveat - upon the request of Mr. Bass; the owner of Jambbas Ranch - exempting all zoos from this ordinance.

Ben the bear as well as several other animals are kept under absolutely appalling conditions in tiny, filthy cages without anything to stimulate them. The animals are clearly in distress and are completely deprived of their natural habitat and food sources. Ben the bear and the other animals are not cared for properly and experience high levels of stress from their unnatural environment and lack of proper care. This is completely unacceptable and must be changed immediately!

We urge you to sign this petition to help improve the conditions for Ben and the other animals at Jambbas Ranch. By signing this petition, you are urging the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners to reverse their decision ASAP. The County Board is meeting again in May, so we need to hurry! Jambbas Ranch must be excluded as a zoo from the ordinance - Jambbas Ranch does not have any education materials. It is a for profit business that also breeds and slaughters their animals to sell the meat. Zoos do not breed animals only to slaughter them to sell the meat.

Thanks for your help in this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Michele Chartier & Lisbeth Amos

Dear Cumberland County Board of Commissioners,

I am contacting you to let you know that I was extremely shocked when I found out that you decided to exclude Jambbas Ranch from the already existing ordinance/law which clearly states that bears (of any bred or hybrid) are not allowed to be held in Cumberland County. Recently, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners added a caveat - upon the request of Mr. Bass; the owner of Jambbas Ranch - exempting all zoos from this ordinance.

Ben the bear (as well as a number of other animals) is kept under absolutely appalling conditions in a tiny cage without anything to stimulate him. He is clearly in distress and is completely deprived of his natural habitat and food sources. Ben is not cared for properly and experiences high levels of stress from this unnatural environment. This is completely unacceptable.

I therefore strongly urge you to reverse your decision ASAP. Please exclude Jambbas Ranch as a zoo from your ordinance. Or at least give definition to what a zoo is. Jambbas Ranch does not have any education materials. It is a for profit business that also breeds and slaughters their animals to sell the meat. Zoos do not breed animals only to slaughter them to sell the meat.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
