Hemp for Food, Fuel, Textiles, Paper, Construction

Hemp for Food, Fuel, Textiles, Paper, Construction

Target:
US Congress
Sponsored by:
Industrial hemp is defined to be those varieties of cannabis that have no drug value, cultivated exclusively for fiber and seed.

The purpose of this petition is to urge Congress to amend the Controlled Substances Act to exclude industrial hemp from the definition of marihuana.

Allowing hemp to be distinguished from marihuana will allow hemp to be grown domestically for food, fuel, textiles, paper, construction materials, paints, varnishes; just to name a few things that can be made from / done with hemp. Growing hemp domestically will allow farmers to have a crop with versatile properties that uses little to no herbicide and passes on pest resistance naturally to following crops.  For example, hemp can be grown on unideal plots of land reducing erosion.  Also, hemp saves trees from being cut down for paper.

Our Founding Fathers cultivated hemp!!

Being from Indiana I know that in the past the government encouraged the growing of industrial hemp. During the WW eras hemp was liberally planted along roads in Indiana for, among other things, making the rope that ships needed. Today this hemp still grows wild in Indiana. And every year thousands upon thousands of wild growing plants are mowed down, or harvested and burned and even had it been left there to grow wild it would have had no effect. It wasn't then, and it isn't now, the kind of hemp that one can get high from.

In this day and age we need to reduce our impact on the planet and something that is so usefull and "Green" is not being used because of a hemp-phobia.

Legalizing hemp would help save so many trees. It's ridiculous that hemp is not legal. Does it have something to do with the lobbyists of the lumber industry?????

We need to EDUCATE the people who make the decisions on such matters. There is absolutely no reason Not to grow hemp, it is all round such a good for the Planet, PLANT that common sense alone(does anyone making the decisions have any) dicates that it is the Smart choice!

In today's world of high gas, food, etc. What better way to use a natural plant to help in our crisis situation. Crisis you say? Try living with an yearly income less than 10,000 dollars, see if you would not change your minds about using what we have.

Hemp, which grows well in similar conditions, would be a great replacement for farmers who have been dependent on tobacco crop income. A win/win for all.

hemp is multipurpose and good for the environment, save a tree ! save all the trees instead of wasting them on all the newsprint that folks just throw away

Hemp has been used for rope, cloth, and many other uses for centuries. I support industrial hemp as a cheap, environmentally-friendly, useful crop to help farmers and the U.S. economy. Thank you.

From fiber to oils to biofuel, hemp needs to be utilized as an industrial crop now. End the illogical bias. Farm hemp.

I can't say it better than #24 "Maureen Primerano of California - Hemp is a durable and multi-purpose plant which ought to be legal in this country as it is elsewhere. With all its possibilities it is imperative that it be reclassified immediately to help heal the environment, and boost the economy." If there is anything hemp could help us with right now it would be the economy & fuel. Congress I am urging you to amend the Controlled Substances Act to exclude industrial hemp (no drug value)from the definition of marijuana.

Why not legalize this multi-level industrial source?? If it can help to save our trees and offer more resources, DO IT!!!! It's really a no brainer.
