Hershey Park Zoo America Responsible for Animal Deaths

On Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 Hershey Park's Zoo American experienced extreme flooding as most of the Pennsylvania area did. This flooding and extreme rain had been predicted for days and everyone was to prepare. Rather than preparing at Zoo America to get these animals to safety ahead of time, the zoo decided to open that morning from 10am to noon. All for more money for this company!  The result was two bison dying avoidable deaths by drowning. One bison drowned and the other was drowning so it was shot and killed. We fear there were other animals that did not make it as well but we are not being told. Zoo America's policies and procedures need to be looked at by authorities. This is the second time the bison have drowned. Another time in 2004 they did as well.

As of Monday, September 12th, 2011 Zoo America is now admitting to some prairie dogs death as well. Before they stated 'only' the bison died.

We need Hershey Park Zoo American to review their evacuation procedures to prevent this from happening another time.

Ask Hershey Park to prevent more needless deaths by looking into policies and procedures and well being of the animals at Zoo America.

We the undersigned as asking Hershey Park's Zoo America to review their policies on evacuation of animals in emergencies and overall well being of their animals.

Thank you for supporting these helpless animals who are confined in their pens.
