Honey Bee Colony Collapse Disorder

Have you heard that no one knows what is causing colony collapse disorder? Maybe even that it may be cell phones or who knows what else? I submit the main cause is "Neonicitoids" under more than a dozen different names, and was discovered to be the cause of Colony Collapse Disorder in the 90's. The French Beekeepers refer to it as Neonics.

There are a plethora of opportunistic factors associated with CCD over 18 pathogens, however it is insecticides that is the cause. That is the factor that must be eliminated to eradicate CCD.

People want proof that Neonicitoids are actually THE cause of CCD, and I don't blame them. However, while too many beekeepers are waiting for someone to tell them what time it is, time is being lost that could be spent in efforts to eradicate CCD. The authoritative facts are and this is according to the manufacturer; Bayer claims (and studies confirm) that Neonics are present in blossoms and pollen and that it persists in the soil for at least one year, as it is a residual insecticide. So the bees do get some of it. If it will kill a really tough Japanese Beetle for 12 months is it really sensible to believe that it wouldn't kill a honeybee, known to be sensitive to the drug? As little as one part per billion is toxic to honeybees. Consider also Bayer's own account of how termites are killed by Imidacloprid a Neonicitoid: the termite's immune system is compromised by the neurotoxin so that it becomes susceptible to the viruses, bacteria and fungi that are normally present and controlled. In other words, their immune systems collapse. If, by chance, the termite is not killed outright, when it flies away from its nest, Bayer's ads say that it will not be able to find its way back. Sound familiar? Sound like colony collapse disorder? The manufacturer themselves claim it causes all of the symptoms for CCD, shouldn't that be reason enough to avoid contaminating honeybees with Neonicitoids?

About 1/3 of food crops depend upon honeybees to help pollinate. Many fruits and vegetables simply will not yield without honeybees to pollinate them.

Signing this will help show concern for eradicating CCD. Thank You!

We the undersigned, are concerned with Honey Bee Colony Collapse Disorder.   Many known and unkown factors effect the health of a honeybee collony, however, that shouldn't be an excuse to continue using neonicitoids in agriculture or for the removal of misquitoes or any other use that are likely to cause Honey Bee Colony Collapse Disorder.  Neonicoitoids, interfer with the imune systems of insects and that is what it was specifically designed to do.  Therefore since Honey Bees are insects and the use of Neonicitinoids in agriculture does result in honeybees absconding, which is what occurs during Colony Collapse Disorder it is recommended Neonicitinoids be no longer used.  Thank-you for taking the time to read and consider the plight of the loss of honeybees and this petition.
