A day at Hoopland

Save Brooklyn Hoops/ Hoopland

Target:
Brooklyn City Council Members

For the past decade, Brooklyn Hoops, which is also known as Hoopland, has been a beacon of hope to the residents of Brooklyn, NY.Unfortunately, January 1st, 2009 marks the day that this beacon's doors will be closed forever. This facility is home to thousands of Brooklynites seeking an alternative to crime filled streets and non-constructive options that plague our children's day to day reality. Through the doors of Brooklyn Hoops, you will see multiple activities that are provided not only to athletes, but also to general youth with other interest i.e. karate, music, dance, Lacrosse and scheduled academic tutoring. These support systems are the building blocks for youth that want to bring change into their lives; hence, assisting athletes seeking scholarships, molding minds to accept the importance of school, church and family. In sum, there is no available facility within our immediate community large enough to accommodate the multiple interest of our local churches, schools, specialized youth programs and families. Consequently, The most disturbing question remains: "Where are all these people going to go?"

We, the undersigned, are appalled at the thought of losing this treasure in our community, demanding that our elected officials hear our cry and help us "Save Hoopland!"

I was one of the first members of hoopland and inspite the fact that I do not live in NY anymore I slways went to hoopland during my trips back to Brooklyn. I am here for the holidays and I am in disbeleif that this facility is closed. Hoopland is a great outlet for our youth... kept me off the streets and helped me build character. Bring HOOPLAND back!!!!!

Hoopland should come back because all my brother does is sell drugs and smoke weed. He is very talented but does not have any where else to go besides the drug filled parks. Hoopland would give a good state of mind and constructive criticism towards a better life.

Hooplan is where i go to do my work outs and is a great karate center for my child.

I am a brown belt with a black tip, i do karate there. Hopplan in the back is a great area for me and my child to work out in our different ways, and also for my friends and i to play basket ball.

I encourage any enterprise that caters to the youth especially the under privileged in society. This gym is needed especially now that we are seeing a world recession looming. We need to maintain an outlet for the youth in these times to prevent them from being sucked into the dregs of society.

My son and his friends play at Hoopland facility for recreation and to keep away from the trouble streets. I would appreciate it if this facility will be re-opened and not just sold to some big conglomerate.

please keep this place open...it gives young children a productive alternative, rather than run the streets and do nonsense, closing this place is going to hurt a lot of people and i know there are a lot of people that love hoopland and want it to stay open, but i fear that it will be closed anyway because people will not sign this petition and take it seriously...

i remember going to hoopland on Wed and Fri to practice with coach Dre ...to work on my game...he taught me a lot, and it kept me out the park where i would have been playing with some not so good people...

Hoopland has been a home to many young kids and basketball players in Brooklyn. To shut hoopland down would be like shutting some of these kids dreams down, and without dreams their is no life.
