A few months back the Heber Springs Humane Society of Heber Springs Arkansas rescued a number of starving horses. These horses where placed in the care of one of the employees of the shelter, Carrie Brewster. She took the responsibilty to care for these animals with the help of generous donors. It was brought to my attention that two weeks ago Ms. Brewster took it upon her self to cease care of the horse's by sending them to the Faulkner County Livestock Auction a.k.a. - a killer horse auction. She notified the manager and the manager failed to take action. It was also brought to my attention that the horses where in fact Mexico bound. Instead of seeking new loving homes for these already suffering horses she decided she needed every penny that the sale of these horses would bring. One horse going for $60. When the board of the Heber Springs Humane Society found out, their reaction was a modest one week suspension. A slap on the hand for sending over a half dozen horses to a cruel fate. I am shocked and appalled that an organization claiming to be a Humane Society would allow this to happen. Then to add insult to injury keep this indiviual employeed!! I am asking fellow horse lovers to help take action. Contact the local newspaper, contact the acting president of the board. This is unacceptable in my book! This is certainly appaling. She was not ever a rescuer if she took degrees to do such an act! I, myself would have paid over $60 to rescue a kind soul who deserved a good future! Shame on her and shame on the 'humane' society. Humaine societys aren't humaine at all unless they are a no -kill shelter and wouldn't ever let someting like this happen!
