We are attempting to improve the Farmers Market in Milton Ontario for the benefit of retailers on Main street that are there 12 months a years paying their lease and not recieving the benefit of the market.
We would like to start a movement here in Milton, Ontario to help improve the Milton Farmers Market. We understand that it as a market itself does really good. The Farmers Market fails at one thing and we feel it is one of the main reasons in having a market in town and that is integrating and benefiting the current retail store on Main Street. Currently the market is geared toward the benefit of the market vendors that are paying for 1 day week rent for 3 months. To accommodate this businesses on Main Street have their businesses disrupted some even go from having Saturdays as their best selling days to selling nothing.
The Market should benefit the Milton residents, retailers and market vendors. Currently vendors have their booths in front of store fronts which they pay for booths from the chamber. These booths along with their trucks block all access to most of the retail stores, which is not fair to the retailers. What we propose is that we remove all vendors trucks from Main street, limit the size of the vendors booths and make 5 to 8 foot access to the sidewalk every two booths. Another option that could be done is to turn the market into a two way village market were the booths would be turned away from the street and towards the sidewalk forcing customer to walk on the sidewalk giving them the opportunity to access the stores and the market.
If you have other ideas on how to improve the market please feel free to suggest any ideas. Thank you, Derek, So Chic
