Frank Schubert - Campaign Manager, ProtectMarriage.com

ProtectMarriage.com, the primary support organization for California's Proposition 8, is sending out letters to individuals, businesses, and organizations who have contributed to the "No on 8" campaign.

Not only is the theory that opposing discrimination is somehow "wrong" patently absurd, but we also feel left out.  We want to be included on the "list" before it is ever published.

We want to thank you for taking the time and effort to compile a list of people, organizations, and businesses who have worked to keep discrimination against an insular minority out of our state's Constitution.  We can't wait to see its publication so we will know to whom to trust when we need products or services.

We do feel, however, that a great injustice is done to those of us who also feel that there is no place for more hatred and division in our state.

Please add our names to your fine list before you publish it.

Also, please be sure to publish your list as widely as possible.  We don't want anyone to miss the fact that we also refused to stand idly by and watch this injustice be enshrined in the core of California's laws.

Basic civil rights should not be left to the whim of voters.

My husband and I paid, combined, $100,000.00 more since 2003 in federal income taxes than another couple with the same incomes but who currently have a "special right" to recognition of their legal marriage by the federal government. Why should we have to pay that much more in taxes? A lot of the "pro-H8te" groups are churches trying to force everyone into obeying their church with the power of law. Every Californian should ash him or herself, "Am I the NEXT target of the 'religious wrong'?"

Dear Mr. Schubert, I am signing this petition as defeating Prop 8 is very important to me. Here is my story. My little brother has been with his partner Scott for over 15 years. Scott is from Australia. Because gay marriage is not recognized on a Federal level both my brother and his partner have to live in Prague. My sister on the other hand is married to a man from Scotland and they both live in California. Why does my sister have more rights than my brother? In addition, I myself an divorced but I can remarry at any time. Prop 8 is just wrong and unfair. Period.

Being Blackmailed for your right to vote. That isn't right and you know it. Every marriage is different and no-one has the right to tell you what you can and what you can't do especially when you vote for something close to your heart. Stop the Blackmail and threats that go with it, please.

Dear Mr. Schubert, There's no need for you to campaign on behalf of my marriage -- I'm confident the union between my husband and I is safe and does not need this or any other proposition to protect it. I am quite concerned, however, about what it means to vote discrimination into our state constitution. For this reason, I voted NO on 8!

I strongly oppose Prop 8. It is wrong and wrong for our country- a step backward/in the wrong direction.

Hate is hate, and someone in a temple in Salt Lake City saying it's right doesn't make it right. Hell yes I oppose Proposition 8, and I'd be honored to be listed as such.

No matter your political inclination - mine is NO ON PROP. H8! - blackmail has absolutely NO place in either the political process or in any other aspect of civilized life. If you cannot make your point with reason alone, you don't have much of a point, now do you?
