Incorporate solar cells into auto bodies.

Target:
G.M.,Chrysler,Ford,Toyota,Honda,Hyundai,Volkswagen,Volvo,Mercedes.
Sponsored by:

It seems our nations automakers would be well served to be putting more research and design into creating vehicles which incorporate solar cells molded into the entire vehicle body of U.S. autos/trucks.

Incorporating solar cells over all surfaces of the vehicle body.....not just the roof of the vehicle, to recharge plug-in hybrid car batteries, would take quite a bit of strain off our nations coal burning power plants, which currently generate 50% of our nations electricity and will need to increase power generation in the coming years to facilitate plug-in hybrid auto recharging.

Plug-in hybrid re-charging will heavily strain our nations power generating systems in future years because of the thousands of plug-in hybrid cars which are do to roll off assembly lines in the coming years in America and around the world and will be plugged into our power grids.

Some auto manufacturers, such as Toyota are incorporating solar panels as part of the molding of the roof of the car to re-charge the hybrid battery of the car.....but apparently not over the entire body of the car.

Incorporating solar panels over all surfaces of the vehicle body could potentially double or triple battery re-charging capacity.....especially with the advent of higher efficiency solar cells being developed each year.

Incorporating these solar cells into the body molding would not alter the aerodynamics of the car or significantly change the appearance of the vehicle.

A 5-15% or more increase in solar cell recharging capability of plug-in hybrid/solar cars would take a 5-15% load off of our nations power generating facilities from plug-in hybrid vehicles.

According to the American Solar Energy Society, solar electric charged vehicles charged from a solar power grid are 60-2000 times more efficient than vehicles burning ethanol or biodiesel and do not cause widespread tropical/temperate forest clearing and/or destruction, as biofuels do.

Also these solar cell bodies will reduce demand on our nations power grid for charging/recharging hybrid-electric vehicles which reduces mountaintop removal caused by coal mining to fuel our nations coal fired power plants.

We the undersigned agree with the sentiments of the author of this petition and wish for Chrysler, GM, Ford, Honda,Toyota and all major auto manufacturers to research and develop such technologies to the fullest.
