INDUSTRYMEN: VOTE & JUST SAY

INDUSTRYMEN: VOTE & JUST SAY "NO" 2 SLAUGHTER

Target:
State Horse Council Advisory Committee & The American Horse Council
We, Friends of Equines FOES of Equine Slaughter, reach out and beseech you, the leaders of our  Equine Industries, to take the lead in the growing National Movement against Equine Slaughter. Polls show that most Americans are against it and studies show that it is a completely un-necessary evil with many alternatives. Most Americans are appalled when they learn that America is the worlds largest exporter of horses for human consumption abroad. Most Americans are also appalled when they learn that over half of all American Horses going to slaughter are registered young & heathy American Quarterhorses, and that the next largest group of American Horses being sent to slaughter are our American Race Horses, thoroughbreds and standardbreds....also all young, healthy, and "rehab-able." Everyone in the industry is crying too many "unwanted" horses and saying that we need to keep the slaughterhouses open to "dispose" of all these "unwanted" horses but Friends of Equines asks if there is a problem with so many "unwanted" horses where are they all coming from and why do they keep breeding so many? Well, in attempting to figger this out we have learned that over 140,000 new horses have been registered with the AQHA last year,......and we are thinking, well there will be somemore "unwanted" horses to send off to slaughter in a little while because for every "good one" or "champion" bred, there are dozens of "so-sos" or "cast-offs" that will never  make it anywhere except downwards on the spiral towards a horrendous death in a slaughter house.  Then there is the racing industry where studies show that approximately 35% of all race horses end up going to slaughter. Friends of Equines sees the so-called "Unwanted" horse problem as a problem created by the Industry that can only be corrected by the industry.....at the very least they must take a stand,....no more alleged "neutrality," or "sitting on the fence" as our horses are being needlessly slaughtered everyday...and we dont want to hear any of that "unwanted" horse crap either because there are thousands maybe millions of us Friends of Equines out threre that would love to help you take care of your industry casts-offs if only you would help us to do so. We cannot do it on our own. We havent the resources or finances to go it alone but believe working TOGETHER we can make a difference.   As leaders of the Equine Industry it is time to take a stance.....you are either FOR or AGAINST the slaughter of equines.....there is simply no inbetween. We need our leaders to take a stand so we better know which way the wind blows for the industry, and the horses. If you are not part of the solution, you are a part of the problem, and we need to know who the problem makers are. Taking a vote on the slaughter issue will tell who is or isnt willing to work with us to work it out and more importantly, why they would not be willing. Allowing a vote on the horse-slaughter issue will free members up for open debate. NOW is the time for a VOTE! NOW is the time to end the slaughter and it MUST begin with YOU -  The Industrymen (and women) of the Equine World. Friends of Equines looks to you, to set the example for the rest of the world when we talk about "own responsibility." Its time for the INDUSTRY to take the reins in the race for the lives of the horses. If for no other reason, they should do it for the much needed "shot in the arm" the good PR will bring to an industry struggling under a dark cloud of indifference to the suffering of the animals under their care or dominion. Imagine if one day the headlines read:
EQUINE INDUSTRY TAKES LEAD IN FIGHT TO END SLAUGHTER......
imagine that
wow
What are they waiting for? STOP THE SLAUGHTER NOW!
