Under the Olympic Games charter, the head of state opens the games. So either the Queen or her representative in Canada, the Governor General, will have to be the one to open the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

If you can get her that would be great. The only downside is that the olympics may down-play coverage of her visit.

To have my head of state, Her Majesty Elizabeth II, open the Canadian summer Olympic games would be an honour, blessing, and down right cool. Please ask her to come.

I believe strongly the Head of State, namely HM The Queen, should open the olympic games as she has done in the past in all countries of which she is head of state.

It would be fitting that our Canadian Head of State opens the Games - any visit here by Her Majesty strengthens us as a Nation.

I can think of no-one more appropriate to be invited to open the games.

In a time when we have trouble defining Canadian, remind everyone who our sovereign is! Invite the Queen

The Queen is our head of state, plain and simple. I can't believe there's even a debate about whether to invite her to open the Games or not.

As our head of state, the Queen should obviously open the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. Anyone else would be secondary.

Canada was founded out of loyalty. During the American Revolution, the 13 colonies tried to get the colonies that would one day become Canada to join the Revolution--by force if necessary! After the Revolution, the loyalists came to the colonies that would one day become Canada, to seek 'refuge'. Hence, loyalty to the Crown is a founding principle of Canada. As a student at the University of Toronto, who is double majoring in History & Canadian Studies, I feel that it is vital for Canada to retain this connection, and proudly display it at international events like this, so the whole world can see that we are a proud Constitutional Monarchy! -- Baruch

We should never forget our heritage, the Queen should always be involved in such proceedings.

Hello, and Bon jour, Since Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, was not invited to attend the City of Quebec's 400th anniversary of the founding of the city, it seems only fair, and reasonable, that Her Majesty should be cordially invited to attend the Olympic Games in Canada in 2010. Wouldn't you agree? God Save The Queen, Long May She Reign Over Us M.

I believe this is very important. As our Queen she should be at the Opening of the Olympic Games.

Look here Liz, most of us in this great country like our Royal Family and would really appreciate it if you would do the RIGHT thing and open the Vancouver Olympics for us and show off Canadian grandeur and pomp to the world. You are the embodiment of this country's sovereignty. As a fellow Brit, im sure we feel the same way about the importance of preserving imperial ties and this is one of those moments where you owe it to your family's history, traditions and your people, to act as our sovereign. Yes, we have a GG but really.....its not the same.........we would be honoured if you attend. If not, i wouldn't be surprised if people began to question who really is the most important person in our government and who is our true national figurehead. Please come!

Her Majesty is Canada's head of state and her presence at the Olympics should be a given, not a choice.
