We shouldn't have to pay $20 for this, when new buyers will get it for free!

Apple, give us the iPod Touch update for free!

Target:
Apple Inc.
Sponsored by:

Today at the MacWorld San Francisco 2008 Expo, Apple Inc. released the information that existing iPod Touch owners will have to pay an extra $19.99 (£12.99) for an upgrade that features 5 new applications (Mail, Stocks, Notes, Weather and Maps.)  These applications should have came with the iPod Touch to start with, just like the iPhone, and it seems unfair that an extra payment should be made on top of the expensive hardware fee.

We have seen/heard that during the MacWorld San Francisco 2008 Keynotes, iPod Touch customers were told that they would have to pay an extra fee for the update that allows 5 extra applications.  The iPhone already had these applications installed, so why not the iPod Touch as well?  We believe that it isn't fair that existing customers of Apple should have to pay this price as well as previously buying the unit, when new customers will not, and when the applications should have already been installed.

Please take this into consideration, and allow current iPod Touch owners to be able to update for free.

I believe the updates should be free. Any other device that I have owned, updates were free. Computer OS's, game consoles, cable boxes, even my HDTV had a free update.

It is a rip off to pay for updates or upgrades for a device so expenssive to start with. Updates/upgrades must be free!

If updating software is going to be on a regular basis, it should be free. Just as if the XP is getting a new service pack on a regular basis, you don't see them charging people money.

Apple has been a top company but now as everyone can see Apple is not doing a good job.It started out with the ipod where it was no color or had no video and caused hundreds of dollars and now Apple is trying to do the same thing with the application problem. People are going to go back to Windows if this keeps happening. So please make EVERY FUTURE UPDATES FREE!!!!

I received the 8gb Ipod Touch for a Christmas present. Then I come to find out an upgrade will be available but after spending $300 now Apple wants another $20. Come on they could at least give owners who purchased 90 days prior to upgrade release that they can obtain the upgrade for free - or simply lower the price. You can download a song or TV show for less than this upgrade.

This is ridiculous! I purchased 3 iPod Touches and this is thanks I get? How absurd! Yet, all the newly manufactured iPod Touches get this app, free of charge already pre-installed. Is this the thanks we get for adopting your product before the first update? That's just bad business Apple!

no, i do not think it is fair to those who got the update after january 1. and also the fact that we have to pay $20 for it. Shouldn't the update be already included in there?

Why should i have to pay extra what should have been on my itouch in the first place?

I know that as an accounting requirement any upgrades to a device not on a subscription must cost, which is appaling in itself, but the fact that they are charging $20/£12 is outrageous
