We the fans of the New England Patriots have signed below in support of electing Kicker John Smith to the New England Patriots Hall of Fame.
A career Patriot, Smith was the backbone of the Patriot's special teams unit from 1974-1983. Sometimes Kickers contributions are overlooked in the history of a franchise, but Smith's legacy was carved in stone with his famous kick in the snow, during the now famous "snowplow game".
Over the next four years many Patriots from the Dynasty era will begin eligibility for their induction into the Hall, and a true Patriot like Smith will become lost in the fold as Bruschi, Brown, Harrison and others start to take their place in the Hall at Patriot Place. The Pro Football Hall of Fame often overlooks Kickers, do not let the Patriots Hall of Fame become the same way. As a lifelong Pats fan,I feel very stongly that John Smith should be in the Hall of fame.If not for all his Key contributions over a 10 year career. Despite twice leading the league in scoring and earning Pro Bowl honors in 1980, Smith is best known for his role in the “Snowplow Game” in December of 1982 when his 33-yard, fourth-quarter field goal accounted for the only points in a 3-0 victory over the hated Miami Dolphins.that alone will go down in patriots lore as something to remember.......not bad for a soccer player from england who never even saw a football before coming to America!!! |
