The Florida session ends tomorrow and our bill for the greyhounds is in jeopardy.
The Florida House of Representatives has sent the greyhound bill back to the Senate for another vote! Please CALL BOTH your Senator as well as the Senate President NOW and ask that she or he VOTE YES TO ACCEPT THE HOUSE VERSION OF THE GREYHOUND BILL.

HB 1145/ SB 1594 will decouple the cruelty of greyhound racing from other forms of gambling, removing the legal requirement that dog tracks host live racing in order to be licensed. This groundbreaking legislation is endorsed by humane groups all over the country. If approved, it will significantly reduce, and possibly end, greyhound racing in the Sunshine State.
As long as dog racing continues, greyhounds will suffer. These gentle dogs are kept confined in warehouse-style kennels in cages so small they can barely stand up or turn around. When let out of their cages to race, they face the risk of serious injury. Dogs have even been electrocuted while racing in Florida.

Dear Lawmaker,
On behalf of GREY2K USA, and its thousands of members in the state, I urge you to support
pending legislation that will save the save the state money and give Florida%u2019s greyhound dogs the
second chance they deserve.
HB 1145 and its companion SB 1594 will decouple the cruelty of greyhound racing from other
forms of gambling and remove the legal requirement that dog tracks host live racing in order
to offer other forms of gambling. If approved, it will significantly reduce, and possibly end,
greyhound racing in the Sunshine State. The language of this bill supports free market principles
and is revenue neutral.
Since 1990 the amount of taxes collected by the state for live greyhound racing has declined by
more than 96%. We are now approaching the point where the cost for regulation may exceed the
tax revenue collected from live racing.
Please know that there is increasing public opposition to greyhound racing due to humane
concerns such as confinement and injuries. Massachusetts citizens overwhelmingly voted
to prohibit greyhound racing in 2008, and state legislatures in New Hampshire and Rhode
Island prohibited live greyhound racing in 2010. Identical greyhound decoupling proposals are
currently pending in several states, including Iowa and Arizona.
While it is our position that the overbreeding and killing of greyhounds for
racing should end immediately, giving dog tracks the option of suspending this cruelty is a huge
step in the right direction.
