Justice Christopher Calvin Myers-Cannon doing what he always did--SMILE and LAUGH. The picture was taken one week before he was murdered.

Justice's Law

Target:
The United States Congress

Background:

Justice Christopher Calvin Myers-Cannon is the son of A1C Christopher Cannon, USAF and Ashley Myers.  Justice was the pride and joy of the whole family and was loved dearly by all.  He was the only child for both Chris and Ashley and the only grandchild for the grandparents.  Justice could light up a room with the glee in his crystal blue eyes.  If you ask anyone in the family, he was just a special little person to all.  There was something about Justice that made him the life of the family.  On January 4, 2007 our family endured a tragic event that would change our lives forever.  Justice was severely beaten about the head and shaken by Floyd Bingaman III (age 20) and left in his crib to die.  The paramedics worked on Justice for approx. 20 minutes at the house to bring life back to him before deciding to transport him to the local hospital which is a trauma center only to find out that the hospital could not provide Justice with the care he required.  Justice was then air transported via helicopter to Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland so that he could be afforded the care he required. The Doctor, an expert in Shaken Baby Syndrome at Johns Hopkins, said Justices head injuries were the worst he has seen in 30 years of his career.  The extent of his injuries were revealed in court; Justice had multiple skull fractures, bleeding around the brain, bleeding between the two halves of the brain, a detached retina and hemorrhaging behind the eyes.  Justice spent 2 ½ days on life support before it was determined there was nothing more the specialists could do for him and we were faced with the reality that there was no life for Justice to be had.  Justice was pronounced dead on January 6, 2007.  Chris and Ashley decided to have Justice be an organ donor and he donated organs to three people on the east coast.  As for the killer, well he has seen his day in court.  Week of November 29, 2007 we went to trial and Floyd Bingaman III was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, child abuse-resulting in death, and assault-second degree.  On January 3, 2008 Floyd Bingaman III received a 40 year sentence with 10 years suspended, 4 years probation upon his release (if he makes it that long in prison), and upon his release he is prohibited from having contact with any minor 12 years old and under.  During sentencing, not once did Floyd Bingaman address our family.  All we heard were his pleas to the judge for mercy in sentencing.  We the family, believe that he should have received the First Degree Murder w/o parole but unfortunately the jury did not see fit.  What Floyd Bingaman took from us will NEVER be replaced or erased from our memory.  Justice will forever be remembered and never forgotten.  Floyd has his life, Justice does not and that is why we are here to fight for a change in the law for the State of Maryland.  Please join and support us in our fight for baby Justice by signing our petition and please leave comments of your support because the comments have a great impact on lawmakers.  Children are our future and we need to protect them. These innocent, defenseless children rely upon us to do just that.  We must band together and put a STOP to this violence. We must band together to ensure the criminals stay behind bars for a VERY long time and away from our babies.

Our Petition:

On January 6, 2007, Justice Christopher Calvin Myers-Cannon died as a result of child abuse.  Justice was 4 ½ months old at the time of his death.  Under current Maryland Law, the death of a child as the result of child abuse is not an automatic charge of First Degree Murder.  Under current Maryland Law, First Degree Murder is automatically charged if the murder is committed during an arson or attempted arson; a burglary in the first, second, or third degree; a robbery; a carjacking; an escape from a state or local correctional facility; poisoning; kidnapping; mayhem; rape; sexual offense in the first or second degree; and sodomy.  Although these crimes are all very serious crimes, the family of Justice Christopher Calvin Myers-Cannon believes that the murder of a defenseless child is the most heinous crime that an individual can commit.  Therefore, the family of Justice Christopher Calvin Myers-Cannon is petitioning for an initiative to enact into law that the death of a child during the course of child abuse be automatically considered as First Degree Murder.

Thank you for your support and God Bless you.

It is only logical that the death of a child during the course of child abuse should automatically be considered as First Degree Murder, because while you are abusing the child obviously you might kill him or her. THEY are children and THEY ARE FRAGILE~! Murder in any form deserves the stiffest penalty

Someone needs to stand up for the defenseless. These babies are never even given a chance. The offenders know the consequences of their actions before they lose their temper so they should not be given a chance to defend themselves.

I truly feel horrible for little Justice's family. I can't even imagine what they've gone through and are still going through. It makes me sick to think that someone that hurt this baby bad enough to kill him might walk the streets again. That is so wrong. Not that sexual abuse is any better, but I think physical abuse is just as horrible and that law should be changed to include physical abuse. It's disgusting and hopefully with the petition that happens.

I beleive that the punishment is way too light 30 years amx is a slap in the face. Also any person that can kill a 4month old child I personally believe has no chance of rehabilitation. The only way anyone should be able to get out of prison is if they can be rehabilitated. But a child is defenseless. Anyone who kills a child should get life in prison WITHOUT the possibility of parole regardless. My sympathys go out to the family of Justice Christopher Calvin Myers-Cannon. May you rest in peace sweet angel...

I feel that anyone that abuse's a child resulting in death should be put in jail for life or hell even get the damn death penalty. An innocent life is lost cause of these wacked out psycho's and it's sad really really sad. Something different definetly needs to be done. Justice had his whole life ahead of him his little life had only just began and was taken away in the heat of a moment. DO SOMETHING

The rate of abuse of children is raising at such a rapid rate and there just dose'nt seem to be any consequences to this horrific act. These babies and children deseve better from all of us, they deserve protection at the highest level, no mercy on the people who harm them in any way, no plea deals, no time off for good behavior, nothing.

I was on a ride along with the Maryland State Police for an internship the night when this occured. A Sherrif's Deputy from Washington County had stopped to assist with a traffic stop and I remember hearing what happened. I was going to school at the time with some people who were very close to Ashley and my daughter at the time was about 2 1/2 months old so all of this really hit home for me. I would go as far to say that any negative act committed on or against a child is unforgivable. It makes me sick to know that this man was granted any leniancy. Justice didn't do anything to this man. I sincerely hope that this petition will assist in bringing justice to this man and some peace to his family although there will always be a deep void felt due to his passing not only with his family but with the community as well.

These children we're suppose to be tomorrows promise, If you hurt a child your freedom should automatically be forfeited! If you bring death to a child, death should be brought upon you. Think of your happiest times in your life and how you wouldn't trade them for anything, then think about these gifts from GOD these children so helpless,so trusting, depending on us to take care of them. Their lives are entrusted to us we've got to help all these beautiful children and give them the opportunity to live happy healthy lives. We have got to be the voices for these children and make a difference. If a dog bites a child they are usually put to sleep. Why should a human being be able to breathe, live, eat and get out of jail or prison after they have taken the life from a child? Let's make a change today we've got too.
