Alright so you probably don't already know that our school is giving us split lunches this means only 40 minutes!!
Most of the teachers are already agenst it and we know all of you will be. Student Council is doing everything we can to keep it the same and eventually we would like to be coming to each class to explain the situation. The only problem is the teachers cannot realy voice what they want to say so it's up to us. We will be going to parent council meetings to try and ask them to help as well join the group stay up to date and once a petition is started Student Council will hopefully come to your class or find other ways of getin everyone to sign it. Other schools like St.Thomas has tried this and stoped after one semester because nobody liked it and it didn't work.
As of September 2008, Assumption Catholic Secondary School will be implementing the 3 lunch system.
The new schedule will be as follows:
Period 1 %u2013 80mins
Period 2 %u2013 80mins
Period 3 A -40mins
Period 3 B -40mins
Period 3 C -40mins
Period 4 -80mins
As you can see, this will leave us with not being able to do and having little time all the things that we enjoy doing at lunch, this will also meen being with less friends go to the mall, play ports on the field, do homework, study.
This is primarily because of one reason:
It has to do with teacher supervision
Teachers can only voluteer a maximum of 875 minutes a year due to their contracts. This includes on-calls. So at the end of first semester this year, apparently over 25 classes were cancelled because teachers were away, and there could be no teachers to be on-call for them because of the amount of minutes already used up out of their 875... and Mr. Iannetta and Administration
is blaming it on the 10 minutes that teachers supervise the hallways during lunch hours, even though we all know that teachers are rarely actually supervising the halls.
Teachers must have a 40 minute lunch as per their contract, so Mr. Iannetta's way of squirming out of this is to make 40 minute lunches so that teachers cannot supervise during lunches.
