dont force your state into nothing but one armed bandit slot machine facilities. racing requires thought. you are killing not only a dog track, but the ability to play such god awful events as the breeders cup and ky derby

I lived in Wyandotte County my entire live until I had to move to Missouri 3 years ago for my job. I remember when the Woodlands opened and how a group of my friends would go there often. Alot has been accomplished in western Wyandotte county over the past few years. I would love to see some support go to the Woodlands since they came before the other development. They were there before any other attractions were interested in taking a chance in our county. I would also like to see an aggreeement reached that would be financially sound for both parties since the bottom line is to keep them open. The thing that really bothers me is how this affect's the Grey Hound community. Please find a way to come to an aggreement if nothing elso but for the dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The state of KS has profited by allowing greyhound racing to exist and be taxed for years.

This race track has been a place where I can mix business with pleasure. I have been able to accomodate clients in the past (to everyone's satisfaction) and would hate to see this opportunity elilminated.
Please take necessary steps to ensure that this fine facility remains active and viable for not only Kansas residents, but for those neighbors like myself who use this establishment for business as well as entertainment.

We really miss Wichita Greyhound Park and our second is Woodlands. Please help us keep greyhound racing alive in Kansas. Slots are an additional draw that people will enjoy and the state will benefit from. Besides that, it will keep the money in Kansas!

Let's do what ever has to be done to continue having greyhound racing in Kansas. It appears to me the lottery is asking way to much of a takeout of the moneys from the tracks.

I don't understand why Kansas doesn't support Greyhound racing; when it is the center of the Greyhound world! I have met many fine trainers and owners, and these people, along with all the support staff, will be going elsewhere, and paying taxes in other states.

First Wichita last October; then the quagmire that halted any chances of Camptown reopening this spring; now Kansas City. So much for believing in the rhetoric spouted by the Powers That Be in Topeka about supporting gambling and racetracks in Kansas! Another stellar example of lyin' thru the teeth, just to get elected. Once again, Kansans have been snookered and led astray by our "fine" elected officials.
Doggone shame that the state harboring many roots of the greyhound industry can't seem to get its act together and support its own...

I have been going to the Woodlands since it opened. It appears that the KS Lottery is having a lottery with the employees that have been there. The state legalized casino slots at race tracks yet they want to take so much it does create an equal playing field for the track, it's owners and employees that provide the service.

I feel sad that a state with such a long a storied history in this sport is facing this issue. I have visited the Woodlands many times in my trips to Kansas City and in its hey day it was rivaled by only Derby Lane in St. Petersburg Florida. Just a shame.

A number of farmers, trainers and dog haulers will be out of buisness. Kansas will be greatly affected but so will many other parts of the country. A whole industry may be brought to it's knees.

kansas is the home of the greyhound industry. let's not let it die. the industry contributes millions to the state. without it the state will suffer financially, and many jobs will be lost.

maybe if the legislatures had a regular job where they had to actually work for their pay, greed is a terrible thing. they should try to remember how they were hired and can only hope they are fired the same way, by all the people because their actions of greed are inexcusable.

My father is employed as a security guard at the Woodlands. Not only is it having a negative impact financially on Wyandotte County, it is putting un-needed strain on those who are employed by the track. Many people are losing their jobs on account of this. I would hope for the sake of my father's job and for the good of the county that the decision is reversed and the track remains.

The state of Kansas is flat BROKE!! Any help it can get from racetracks, bingo, slot machines or lottery would benefit the state. I would think the law makers would understand the need to create revenue(not many vacationers are traveling to kansas to see the flint hills).
I remember many years ago the mom and pop eatery closest to the Woodlands (can't remember the name) had there slot machines confiscated. Oh yeah they had about 3 video poker machines that paid out under the table, all that did was drive those few local gamblers to the missouri river boats when they opened the following year.
The state has had many opportunities to raise revenue by installing slots at the post 400, VFW and Knights of Columbus bingo halls to keep them thriving and supporting our vets but instead we chased veterans to the CASINOS for Vegas style gambling and bankrupt the Veterans facilities. Furthermore we have neglected all chances to create cash and chase money out of state.
STOP DOGGIN IT AND SUPPORT PARI-MUTUEL.
THANK YOU
THE TOPEKA KID

Moving from Iowa to work as a member of the New Casino Management Team with the Woodlands,it is very disappointing to have to search for another career, due to the lack of knowledge and intelligance of the elected officals in the state of Kansas. Their Careers should be affected as well. Racing and Gaming have long been linked together, so now not only has Kansas messed up the oppurtunity to add GAMING, Miss Kathleen and her Horses ( No pun) have since killed the idea of SAVING the racing side of things. Inform your friends, and co-workers, of our challenge and hope to continue the idea of RACING oh and... GAMING in the state of Kansas!

Thanks alot Gov., you've proven that politicians say whatever the voters want to hear just to get elected. Then when you do it's biz as usual, you're obviously not trying to better your state, all you and your people are doing is loading your pockets with $ from Missouri river boats. We elected you because you said you would fight for gambling in KS which you did, but once again greed has taken over. If the track closes, I don't expect you will be re-elcted for any office for the simple fact you're all talk, NO ACTION. Another ? why would you appoint someone pres. of the gaming commission who knows absolutely NOTHING about gaming or more importantly RACING???? How could you let the Woodlands be put in this position? We supported you so strongly! What a let down you have been to the state of KS. I know this sounds harsh, but I've worked at the Woodlands for a very long time and it pisses me off that we've always payed taxes and all these businesses being built down the street pay none. We're trying to help you and the state with revenue, taxes, etc.. I hope you're not to busy to take all of these comments into consideration before r last race day 08/23/08. Stop this before it's unfixable. THX KS VOTER AND TAXPAYER!!!
