We the undersigned draw Fredericton City Council's attention to the following:
THAT:
-an intercity bus service is an integral part of a vibrant downtown core
-the City of Fredericton has professed its desire to be a green city, and the use of public transportation reduces greenhouse gas emissions arising from the use of personal vehicles
-the City of Fredericton is home to several post-secondary institutions, with many students of these institutions needing convenient and affordable access to public transportation on weekends and holidays
-a bus terminal is a valuable opportunity to encourage tourism by making a good first impression on those passing through our community; while a poorly-designed or inconvenient terminal reflects negatively on our city
-those relying on public transportation are often on limited incomes, and should not be expected to bear the increased cost of cab fare to get to a distantly located bus terminal THEREFORE, we petitioners demand that the City of Fredericton take immediate action to secure a downtown location for the Acadian Bus Lines Terminal.

I am a student of St. Thomas University, and do not own a car. the bus terminal being placed in the heart of downtown Fredericton was ideal for me. if it moves over towards the hanwell road it would make it difficult for me and many other students to get on the bus. if one would, could understand how hard it is to walk with a suit case along with a few other things that students bring with them, such as a lab top these things are not the easiest to walk with. that is why i urge the acadian bus line to to stay where it is or somewhere close to this location. thank you for the chance to voice my opinion.

Being on a limited income and being a student is hard enough without incorporating the cost of cab fare into the equation. sure many places have stops at gas stations or random places round town, but these are in minor towns and cities.
Even though the official stop in Antigonish NS is at St. FX, that is still a VERY SMALL town. Larger centres, like Moncton and Truro (which is smaller than Fredericton) have their bus stations in a core and very accessible part of town. Even Sydney has a bust station downtown and they are at the end of the line (and a very small aount of traffic going through).
If all of these other places have their bus terminals in a SMART downtown location, why can't we have it like that here in Fredericton? To relocate the terminal would be a definite inconvenience to everyone who uses the bus system, not just students.
You also run into the problem with tourists--who might have never been to the city. Hanwell Rd isn't the most attractive place in Fredericton, and first impressions are very important in the eyes of tourists. It is unfair to move it, and unwise as well.

The decentralization of our main sources of travel and/or institutions forces more people to drive. This is a question of accessibility as not everyone has access to an automobile or can afford the cost of a taxi.

Providing accessible public transportation is an important aspect to becoming a "green" city. By moving the bus station to a location that is not within walking distance to most amenities, we would be taking a step backwards from this goal. In addition, we would be increasing automobile traffic (and pollution and greenhouse gasses) and adding an additional hardship on the poorer members of our city, who may not be able to afford transportation to and from the new location. Please keep the bus station downtown!!

Relocating the bus terminal outside the downtown will reduce the number of persons visiting that part of town. It will also force many, who can ill afford the cost, to take a taxi to a less convenient location. Why penalize the city and its citizens and tourists that way?

You believe moving a bus station all the way up on top of a hill will make people in a UNIVERSITY town (majority of students do not have cars) is beneficial? If ANYBODY even has a car, they wouldn't even go to the bus station in the first place. And even the price of the taxi would turn people away... it's not cheap to go all the way up there.
Please keep the bus station downtown somewhere for the sake of the people living in this city, and for the people who want to visit this city.

Having a bus terminal out on Hanwell rd. makes no sense. Basically anyone taking a bus in and out of Fredericton would need to take taxi's. Can't they find a more central location??

I am enrolled as a student at St. Thomas and I find the downtown bus terminal for Acadian lines to be centrally served. Why anyone would want to move the terminal to the other end of town is beyond me? If that would happen, the taxi fare I will need to pay will most certainly go up and might end up being more unattractive.
I like the idea of using the York St. Station...it is not being used and the Irving Company could benefit somehow from Acadian Lines moving there. It seems like a much better plan for the station instead of letting it continue to deteriorate.
Please keep it downtown.

keep the bus station downtown, if u cant keep it on regent st at least put it where the old train station was. the city gonna do anything with it anyway. and it will still be close for ppl stopping in fredericton to run to town if needed and for university students who rely on it and ur everyday passengers who rely on the bus station to be in town.

This proposed rezoning for the bus terminal is backward for two reasons: it's bad for the environment (extra driving), and a major inconvenience to those without a vehicle (taxi fares and added time spent getting to the bus station).

As a student that's going to be living in Fredericton in September, moving the bus terminal will do nothing but make me use the service less often as it's less convenient. Hopefully the terminal will stay exactly where it is.

I'm an active and sustainable transportation advocate and must say that moving the inter-regional bus system outside of the downtown core would negatively impact Fredericton.

There is simply no place for the bus station other than the heart of fredericton. It's heavily utilized by students, most of which live in the downtown area.

Moving the Acadian Lines bus terminal to the Hanwell road is such a terrible decision. The downtown location is the perfect place for everyone to be able to access the bus. Having the bus station that far out of town is going to make it extremely inaccessible to a lot of people. The bus terminal needs to stay in the downtown core. Please reconsider your decision.
