Near Southeast is the waterfront community of Capitol Hill. We are a vibrant community that is proud to be in Ward 6. We are invested in our neighborhood, our current leaders, and our future. Councilman Barry's recent campaign to take Near Southeast into Ward 8 is a slap in the face to Ward 8 communities that need his leadership, and it is an affront to our growing neighborhood's sense of place and evolving identity.

Dear DC Council Redistricting Committee,

Near Southeast is the waterfront community of Capitol Hill and Ward 6. We are a vibrant community that is very proud to be in Ward 6. We are invested in our neighborhood, our current leaders, and our future. Not only is Council member Barry's recent campaign to bring Near Southeast into Ward 8 a slap in the face to the many Ward 8 communities that need his leadership, it is an affront to our growing neighborhood of Near Southeast's sense of place and identity and to the ways we are already affiliated with our surrounding geographic community. We strongly oppose any efforts to move the political boundary of our neighborhood into Ward 8.
Thank you for the time you are taking to thoughtfully explore ways to re-draw some of the Ward lines. We are a proud, active, and engaged neighborhood, and we ask that you please keep Near Southeast where it makes the most sense: in Ward 6.
