KEEP RESCUE FRIENDLY LEADERSHIP AT GREEN BAY HUMANE SOCIETY

Target:
Animal lovers, pet rescue organizations.
Complaints that have been received from one specific group (a small group of disgruntled ex-employees and volunteers) concerning the BAY AREA HUMANE SOCIETY STAFF & rescue organization staff.  The policies are certainly not DEADLY.  There has been no healthy adoptable animal euthanized since Director Messick was hired.  Rescue groups are welcome in the event that a dog is NOT adoptable.  If the humane society can place them, they do not turn them over to rescue groups %u2013 only when an animal is difficult to place.  The rescue groups are required to pay NOTHING to take that animal, however.

The policies of the Humane Society (open adoption) is endorsed by major national organizations such as the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States.   I encourage you to check with them prior to signing this petition.   Director Messick has fought hard in his career AGAINST breed specific bans, so I am certain they are not targeting specific breeds to euthanize.  What qualifies a dog to be euthanized is 1.  Illness (untreatable), 2.  Aggressiveness (unrehabitable).  THAT%u2019S IT!

I believe the shelter using a nationally recognized tracking software, which would make it impossible to "fudge" numbers.  The numbers speak for themselves %u2013 they have a return to shelter rate of 3% (national average is 11%) and have not euthanized ANY HEALTHY, ADOPTABLE animal.

PLEASE, PLEASE CALL ROGER MESSICK, DIRECTOR OF BAY AREA HUMANE SOCIETY, TO VOICE YOUR SUPPORT:

I'd have to agree with the person in the other petition who said the following: In this weekend's newspaper, statistics were provided that about 150 dogs had been euthanized at the Bay Area Humane Society since January 1. My question is this: Is the BAHS willing to provide details on those dogs that were euthanized including breed, reason for euthanasia, time at BAHS & last but not least, WHICH LOCAL RESCUES HAD BEEN CONTACTED WITH REGARD TO THESE ANIMALS?! If they are willing to do this, and everything checks out with the records & the rescue groups then contacted for verification purposes, this petition should be null & void. If not, why not? What's being hidden... OFFER IT UP BAHS!!!

I have been to the Bay Area Humane Society looking for a puppy to adopt, and have been impressed with the care and conditions that the shelter offers for all the animals. We did not adopt a puppy from them, however I don't see any reason why there should be new management. He seems to be doing a fine job.
