So what's going to happen to the VMK Staff when VMK closes? Well, we're all moving onto other projects here at Disney and positively looking ahead to the future. Me and a few other team members have already moved to other projects (but are still making sure VMK is running smoothly until it closes).
I know that this is sad news for you, but we're all thankful we've had the opportunity to enjoy the game for as long as we did. Just know there are even cooler things on the horizon ahead, for you as players and for us as game creators. So as my good friend Captain Jack Sparrow would say...

As Yavn mentioned in the Newsletter, VMK was created and launched as part of a promotion to celebrate Disneyland's 50th Anniversary.
The game/promotion has ran well beyond the original time it was intended to.
When is the last time I can play?
The game will close at 10:00PM PST, Wednesday, May 21st, 2008.
Will I still be able to buy cards and pins in the Parks?
Yes, you can still buy VMK Cards and Pins at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Parks while supplies last but after May 21st, 2008 the codes will no longer work in the game.
What will happen to the game and the website?
The website will remain up for a few weeks to let people know what has happened, but you will not be able to log into the game after May 21th, 2008.
What will happen to all my virtual stuff in VMK?
Since the virtual items live only in VMK, you won't be able to access your VMK items or take them with you to another Disney Online Virtual World.

Eventually though, all promotions must come to an end, so I'm announcing today that on May 21, 2008, VMK will open our virtual gates for the last time. You read that right: VMK was never intended to last forever %u2013 we'll close the game for good at the end of day on May 21st, 2008.

Now we understand this news may be upsetting to you but let me explain. Again, VMK was launched as part of Disneyland's 50th Celebration in 2005 and the game has lived well beyond the originally intended time it was planned to run.
Over time you've seen our in-Park presence and other parts of VMK go away. You may remember our V.I.P Tours at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, or our in-Park Quest. We didn't stop doing those things because we don't love the game or our Guests, but because the time to run those promotions ended.
At Disney we're still committed to building communities and online virtual worlds %u2013 and we're looking forward to providing you the opportunity to enjoy other exciting new experiences.
Don't look at VMK ending as a bad thing %u2013 think of it as a new beginning, a chance to explore something fresh and new! Think of it like school: You don't want to leave your old friends, but still, the time has come to graduate and move onto another great adventure.
In the time since we've launched VMK, we've seen many players come and go, and we're hoping you will graduate from VMK too %u2013 in particular, to games like Pirates of the Caribbean Online, Disney's ToonTown Online, Club Penguin and the upcoming Fairies and Cars online virtual worlds. I really hope vmk opens back up it was even better than pirates online. I dont give a care about the 50th aniversary. They had vmk for a long time before the 50th aniversary. I miss playin the haunted mansion game and I miss the matterhorn I dont really care about fantasy courtyard. I liked all the pirate stuff if anyone wants to meet me on vmk if it opens back up just look for lightning.boy but yeah I loved this game I but they had to close it but if they open it back up. I am so bored I have been playin magic online all summer long and reading magyk septimus heap by mark zug. I like runescape too and mini-match and club penguin too.

i love vmk just like everyone else in this world. i made so many friends it was fun but the VMK got shut down. thats not fair as a person wishing for VMK to come back so badly. i really look foward to seeing Vmk open in October, 2008. i absolutely love VMK honestly. i Wish i could be Acesugerplum again. that would mean the world to me. this is not fair, vmk was a completely successful website and i have missed it almost every single day since its been gone. ive heard rumors that vmk is going to reopen in 2009 but you have to pay for it? that is completely unfair. the only reason why i went on vmk is because it was really fun and you didnt have to pay. theres other websites like clbpenguin but you have to pay for that. ):

I heard they closed VMK because Disney hired some company to create VMK for them in Disney's name but the company quit on them. I know they are trying to make it back, well thats what Disney says.. they also say VMK will return in 2 years

Hiya ppl. I want VMK to re-open because Vmk is the best game out there and alot of people love this game! You are taking away great memories, friends away from us, you are killing are dreams. What would Walt do? He would want to see children and there families happy not sad! There is alot of petions some have 11,000+ more signuters some have 2,000+. This game was the safest. Stuff like Runescape, Myspace, Facebook, etc. Are not safe and fun. There are not some fun Disney games but VMK made you addicted. Not everybody can travel to DisneyWorld or DisneyLand so they go to VMK for the magic and to have fun. There been alot of hours we people spent on VMK because we are addicted. When Vmk was announced they were closing people were protesting on VMK or quitting because they are so upset about the closer of VMK. We all cried because of this- this killed the magic. Please give us are beloved game back Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK) were we all can share the magic. Also People are willing to do a pay to play. If VMK does not open we people will keep trying are best to get vmk open again! A quest!

I really dont think its fair that vmk closes. But as I realize life is not fair. Year of a Million Dreams haha yeah right more like year of a million broken dreams thanks to disney. They dont care that we have 33,024 as a total of all these sights. They dont care that they broke our dreams and our hearts. All they care about is money and I for one am willing to pay to play vmk. Idk disney. If you cant find it in your hearts to keep it open for us then just think of that little girl named, Megan who is fighting cancer she feels like she is dying in 2 lives. I guess if you cant find it in your heart to just keep it open for that one little girl then I guess we cant find it in our hearts to go to disney land or wdw and buy there merchandise. I never thought that Disney would give such little thought to letting down so many kids. There are thousands of kids who love this site and Disney prides themselves on making children happy. I wish you would re-consider your decision to shut down the site.

i worked soo hard trying to save up on VERY expensive VMK furniture and i loved playing the games and exploring the wonderful world of Disney online. Dear Disney: I am writing today, to express my dissapointment and sadness I am feeling with the recent news of VMK closing as of May 21st. VMK is a place where fans of all ages can gather and share one common love that is in fact Disney. We've grown up with the movies, the characters, the park experiences and now more then ever do we need a place to escape to. With so much negativity in today's society and in our world in general, we need that place where we feel safe. With VMK gone where do we turn? Sure we can turn ToonTown, Club Penguins and even Pirates Online, but the truth is, we all want to be a little selfish, we all want that great feeling that only vmk can provide us with. The magic that we all get at the parks when we go can only be described as unforgettable and if Disney can create something that lets us relive those moments when we are unable to attend the parks, then they would be foolish to let it go so easily. What I don't think the members of the above company understand is that is exactly what has been created, a magical experience that not I or anyone else who is a Disney fanatic is ready to give up.
