Neglecting our tourist destinations has already devestated many mom and pop a/v - Production companies. The larger ones are still in business only by laying off 1/3 or better of their employees, and cutting salaries of the ones still working. For the freelance community, it's a lot like the middle class, WE HAVE BEEN DEVESTATED. I personally have taken an 80% cut in my work because of the government boycott of Conventions and corporate meetings on Orlando. Nice job, and being a freelancer, I don't even qualify for unemployment....BRING OUR WORK BACK!

Places like Orlando and Las Vegas are dependent on large conventions coming to town. I'm an A/V technician, currently depending on unemployment now. Thanks Obama! Way to go simulating the economy! I guess only big banks and auto makers matter to you, because they don't have enough money. Give them MORE! The government doesn't think about us 'little' people. Taking away these meetings hurt a lot more people than is thought of. What about the hotel maids, the park ride operator, the convention center caterer, the truck drivers, the flight attendant, the cab/bus drivers, the grounds keeper and of course all us A/V people! A lot more people will be put on unemployment. Save us, don't kill us!

Communication is a key ingredient for any organization's success. Nothing enables communication, within an organization, to members of an association, or to clients and potential customers than the opportunity to meet face to face. Meetings fuel business growth and develop business opportunity. Non-profits also benefit through the sharing of best practices and the development of standards. America's transportation and hospitality industries have provided a wonderful infrastructure to enable the business of America to meet and to achieve.

I think it is shortsighted and reckless for congressional officials to take a stance on whether or not an entire industry is relevant. Considering the US Government has taken a position on protecting the auto industry because of the sheer number of Americans that could potentially lose their jobs. Why is it so difficult for them to see it is also important for professionals in other market sectors to maintain their jobs and careers. The meeting industry helps to keep, hotels, airlines, convention centers, transportation businesses and restaurants operating. No one industry is more relevant and/or important than another. We are all Americans working to improve the lives of our families and citizenry while sustaining our position in the global economy.
