Members of the Entertainment Industry and other concerned citizens demand that the Motion Picture Television Fund Board of Directors immediately reverse its decision to close the MPTF long-term care facility before more elderly lives are lost to the stress and trauma of forced eviction.
We, the undersigned concerned citizens and members of the Entertainment Industry, strongly urge you to IMMEDIATELY REVERSE YOUR DECISION TO CLOSE THE LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY AT THE MOTION PICTURE TELEVISION HOME.

Many industry workers have contributed to the MPTF throughout their careers with the expectation that this all-important safety net would remain in place and it's now 88-year-old mission of "Taking Care of Our Own" would continue as promised for our generation and those that follow.

We are also concerned about the adverse effects this threatened closure is having on the elderly residents of this nursing home and their families -- including the INCREASED DEATH RATE of both residents and transferees.

Please, it's not too late.  for the sake of these elderly residents' lives and those who will need this facility in the future, KEEP THE MPTF NURSING HOME OPEN!

Every union "takes care of its own." That we are not doing that by closing this facility is horrific to me. Many people do not have the money or the heirs who can help. Keep this facility open, please.

While I hope it's many years away, I have often thought this is where I will spend the end of my life (especially since I do not have immediate family in CA). It is shameful that we might lose this benefit and the care provided! And, it saddens me for the folks who need this care NOW!

My great-aunt was a resident of the LTC facility and is now at the Villa on the MPTF campus. What happens if she needs LTC again later? Will it be there for her? This is her home and she is very happy and well cared for. Keep it open and honor the promise.

I am a union member and have worked very hard and hopefully will have the opprotunity to obtain the long term facility care benefits. I only have 3 more years and I will have earned that priviledge. I don't want it taken away from me...especially after I have worked so hard in this industry to earn it. The powers that be of the Motion Picture Home should be extremely ashamed of their actions and attitude towards the people that are there and the people that are working to earn the right to be there. I am all for a major house cleaning...more of the big wigs need to resign. We can save money and budget wisely without hurting people in the process.

There are SO many people who have planned on having this available to them in their later years -- it will be utterly devastating for them if this place were to close!!! Isn't there a way to keep it going for 20 more years, with a firm date of closing it, say in 2030, so the younger workers know that it will not be an option for them, but it can still be there for the people who will really need it in the coming 20 years??? I'm SURE you can find a way to make it happen! Please try!

People signed over thoier estates and everything they had to the effectr they would truly retire there. How can we treat our elders with such disrespect? who will fight for the place or is this all about money-making. We need some one who knows health-care to fill the position of

MPTF employees are also your own, part of the caring family. They are not only heartbroken to see what is happening to those they have cared for and loved, but suffer the indignity of being escorted out of the facility by security on the day they are laid off as if they are criminals, many of them after over 20 years of devoted work. As a retired employee, I feel their pain and pray for them and their patients and residents as they go through this very painful time. Thank you for working to Save the lives of our own!

I had always thought that the Assisted Living and Long Term Care facility at MPTF would be my final home. I am in fact on the waiting list for when that time comes some years down the line. I have most of my medical needs taken care of through MPTF. And I had shoulder surgery at the hospital there before they closed it. I am distressed that it no longer exists and that they plan to eliminate Long Term Care. AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE POWERS THAT BE PLAN FOR THAT VERY VALUABLE PIECE OF PROPERTY THAT THE MPTF SITS ON.

I am appalled by the recent developments at the Motion Picture Hospital and long term facility. I know first hand the care and attention that my mom received when she was hospitalized in 2001. We as entertainment professionals work all our lives to support this wonderful institution. We need the services to continue and want to make the hospital and home the best in the world. This is where we had hoped our monies went. I will lend my voice to the growing chorus of outrage over the state of affairs. Shame on those who would abandon our brothers and sisters in the business at this time in their lives. John Debney

I've followed this story for quite some time. It would be tragic to close this facility. My mother was in a care facility and I know the positive influence her stay there had on her in her final years. Please keep this facililty open. It would truly br devastating to it's residents and their families.

I was present at the dedication ceremony of the Motion Picture Home back in 1947 as a guest from Columbia Pictures. We were promised that it would always be there for us, if, and when,we needed it---- "We take care of our own". I'm nearly 87 and I could very possibly need it some day in the future, but now my (and hundreds of other aging union members who supported the fund throughout their productive years) safety net is gone. Please bring it back.

The arrogant disregard of the community by Dr. Tillman has shown itself not only in his mishandling of the Motion Picture Home, but also in the demoralization of medical staff and the degradation of services at the MPTF clinics. We now need an optimistic, can-do administrator who will undo the damage and find a way to make things work.
