One of our worthy institutions is under attack. Dick Reizner's "Tips to Clip" column is being canceled. Apparently, Videography's management felt it wasn't cutting edge .
This action seems shortsighted and indicative of an attitude in technology circles that "old" is bad, "new" is good. Dick's column is about technique, not technology really. It's all about the "how" of the production business, not the what. When Dick writes (or speaks) about technology, frequently it's how to work around it's limitations. I cannot remember a time when I didn't learn SOMETHING from one of his columns or his presentations.
Videography is an institution and for good reason. It's articles, columns and reviews have fueled an industry made up of thousands of professionals.
Likewise, Dick Reizner is an institution. His experience, knowledge and connections may be needed not more than ever. With the great emphasis on technology, we need someone out there grounding us in the day to dayness of the production business.

We, the undersigned, urge you to keep Dick Reizner's "Tips to Clip" column. The tips and techniques shared in the column have helped countless film, video and media professionals everyday for decades. It is important in a our technology centered industry to remember that technique is what tells the story or sells the widget. Dick's column brings technique to the fore. Videography has adroitly tracked the industry for decades. Dick Reizner's "Tips to Clip" has served us nearly that long. Please restore the column so we can continue to benefit from his experience and knowledge. The kind of knowledge and technique that has fueled the very industry you cover.
We signed the "Bring Back Dick Reizner's "Tips to Clip"" petition!

Are you guys nuts? Removing Tips to Clip would be a real bad move. If anything you need more articles like that. If you are going to get rid of anything, get rid of the "glowing reviews" of your sponsors products and replace them with how to articles that are actually useful.

These are life savers. You will never need most of these ideas personally. But that one time you find yourself or a crew mate in a pinch, I guarantee it will be one of those "tips to clips" that will pop in your head and save the day. It's happened to me...

I tried to write a similar "Tips to Clip" article once, and although I wrote a few down, even after my 17 years freelancing, I ran out of steam - and he has been doing it for years !! Please keep the column and the real world ideas from a real, longlasting Pro !

Dick's column is what production is really about. I read less & less all the time, because each magazine is one big impersonal advertisement for the technologies. Never mind this "fix it in post" mentality, we need more folks like Dick.

Incredibly short-sighted move. I have made my living as a professional videographer for 25 years. It takes more than just the technology to make one a professional. Dick's column and seminars have been a long-time favorite of mine. "Videography" is less and less relevant except as a wrapper for ads for equipment that will be obsolete in months. The equipment manufacturers want readers to think that all it takes is the latest equipment to make one a professional. We experienced professionals know better. Dick's knowlege will help videographers for a lifetime. It has always been one ot the first things I turned to in that magazine. It's sad that a "magazine for video professionals" is contributing to the dumbing down of our profession.

Every chance i run in to Dick at a trade show, convention, etc. I try to bend his ear and go over even more "Tips to clip". Since that doesn't happen often enough, I point out what a true service Dick provides and so do you by publishing his column. It's a win-win for everyone in the industry.

I've always found the "Tips to Clip" column interesting, and I can't even remember the number of things I've found there that have become standard operating procedure for us. Because the new, less expensive cameras and editing systems are bringing so many new people into the business, I thing this type of information is even more valuable today.

Dick's tips have saved my shoots over and over. I still always have a Sharpie with gaffer tape wrapped around it every shoot. And I remembered and used his tip about a pola filter taking the shine off a bald pate, and used it successfully on a recent shoot for PBS. Come on now ... if it wasn't for Mr. Reizner, ya'all wouldn't know what a C-47 was used for, would ya? Keep the tips coming. I want more!

Dick's "Tips to Clip" has help me stay open to innovative and simple solutions in the real world. Professionals across the country share their working knowledge through Dick's fine columme.
His not flashy but when things start falling apart, Dick simple suggestions have saved many a 'shoot'. Keep "tips to clip".

I concur with Adam Wilt when he says he reads Videography mainly for Mark Schubin and Dick Reizner, two of the best columnists in pro video today. The rest of the "book" usually quickly ends up in the bin. Sorry, but that's the reality of today's media. You have to know what's valuable to people and what's just more of the same.

I read Videography for two reasons: Dick Reizner and Mark Schubin. I've read Reizner since he wrote for the old "A/V Video" some 20+ years ago and he still has stuff to teach me--stuff I use all the time.
Look, I can get gear reviews faster and more comprehensively on the 'Net; I read Vidy for its unique advantages. If Vidy drops one of its few remaining must-read columns, well...

So a very good column which gives tips on techniques that are valuable to newcomers and old timers is not high tech enough. People next then. They aren't very high tech either. Until HD robots are doing the productions on their own keep the tips to clip for the people doing the productions. They can still benefit from them.

Dick has long represented the quality approach to television production as it has evolved through many technologies. His "Tips to Clip" column presents approaches that are beneficial to novice as well as the grizzled pro. I have watched Dick enlarge circulations for the magazines in which his column has appeared for decades. I consider him essential for the retention of loyal readerships of magazines that purport to address the needs of the television industry. Don't mess with success!

As a video professional, I know that Dick Reizner's Tips are an extremely valuable tool. Sometimes the best solutions to a problem on a shoot are the simple "MacGyver style" ones like those Mr. Reizner has written about over the years. And as a former Radio-TV instructor at a university, I believe Dick Reizner's Tips to Clip should be required reading for every incoming freshman in a RTV program. Please don't let this valuable resource slip away.
