Black-necked Stilt at Keystone's archaic wetland

Keystone Heritage Park: opposing nearby housing / apartment development

Target:
1000

Owners and developers of the property just to the south of Keystone, which is currently undeveloped, are requesting a Zoning Condition, which would release the restriction currently attached to the property and allow for the construction of apartments. Any residential zoning in that area would be disastrous to our Park. Apartments or houses would mean cats! Pet cats will enter the refuge & kill birds, lizards, & mammals. We could forever lose our shore birds, wading birds, many duck species & all our ground nesting birds. Apartments would also mean children! As much as we appreciate children & their curiosity, we do not want that curiosity to extend to the Keystone archeological site. We cannot allow this internationally recognized site to be threatened. And apartments would mean traffic! The consequence of traffic from an apartment complex coupled with the visitor traffic at Keystone could make for a disastrous increase in the number of cars accessing Doniphan. Keystone is one of El Paso's treasures. Please help protect & preserve Keystone by signing our petition. Let City leaders know you oppose this zoning change.

El Paso deserves pristine, clean, and preserved sites where future generations can discover the past. El Paso does not need anymore residential spots. For goodness sakes, look at all the houses up for sale right now with very few getting sold! Just last year, the average El Paso was on the market for ten months before a sale or it was taken down. Save Keystone!

The upper valley is known for its green vegetation and agricultural acreage, but it is greatly suffering the damages of constant construction of homes. The community must come together to fight for those areas which we still have!

No, But hell no, building of housing on that property will not only affect us, home owners of this area , but will also destroy the gift that our grandfathers left for us

We need to protect this beautiful area from change. Allowing homes and apartments to be built around this area will only create an environment that promotes damage to this precious park. Do not allow this happen!

Please don't endager this beautiful park! It's such a wonderful place for people to go, I'd hate to see it marred by a zoning change. Besides, with the real estate market the way it is, why would anyone want to build more apartments when there are empty ones to fill?

Many people have worked hard to acquire and establish Keystone Heritage Park. I am very proud of them, and beseech you to not allow this zoning change which most certainly would cause damage to the Park. Thank you, Welta Scruggs. (Mrs. J. W. Scruggs)

There are not enough places in El Paso where wildlife is preserved. This is one and it needs to be maintained. Build another apartment complex somewhere else.

Local birds and wildlife need space. The people of El Paso have many places where houses can be built - the animals need their homes too though. This kind of land is sparse, and the the animals need it.

Don't change the zoning please, we are leaving less and less space to the wild life; we forget that wild life is necessary!

Protect the beauty of Keystone and our environment. I stongly oppose any zoning changes that would allow development of the area surrounding this site and its wildlife.

I am very much against the development of the land next to Keystone. We must preserve this unique historical site.

There are plenty of other sites to build on. Stay away from this nature sanctuary, we do not have many of these!!!

Without concern for our fragile desert environment, developers wish to use zoning conditions to construct residential homes/apartments in close proximity to the Keystone Park. This park is a gem in El Paso, a city whose planning commission has allowed too many zoning changes and development of areas that should have been kept as environmental treasures, and the restriction currently attached to the property must stay. The City has an obligation to the people of El Paso to protect the Keystone Park. Construction on its doorstep would thwart the intent of the park and destroy the refuge for birds and other native wildlife. We have so few natural treasures left unblemished by the developers' bulldozers, please think about the tragic impact such development would have on the Keystone Park before you carelessly sign away yet another natural gem.

I'm against the construction of apartments near the Keystone site. We're trying to protect the wildlife in a "natural" environment!!
