Kieri's Law - Trap Law Reform

Current regulations in Oregon allow traps to be set on public land, concealed from view,  without penalty of any kind for placement of traps that result in serious injury to people, or pets that are under control of their owner.

In the interest of public safety, we urge the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife Commission to establish and promote trapping regulations that prescribe a high standard of care for public safety.

To such end we pray you adopt regulations that:

Prohibit the use of large body-gripping traps on land;

Require signs to be placed at trailheads leading into 'desginated areas' that warn entrants to the area of the dangers associated with the probable existence of land-based traps;

Require traps to be conspicuously marked when set less than 100 feet away from a maintained trail with 'designated areas'; and

Promulgate a code of trapper-ethics-and-responsibilities that prioritize public safety.
