While we help others around the world, OUR OWN in America are suffering, freezing to death every year, have no electricity or running water, no heat in -50 degree cold, please help by sending what you can.  We all have extra clothes and know people with baby clothes they no longer need.  We can use those post office boxes that mail for a single fee regardless of the weight.  Don't take stuff to Goodwill, mail them to the Lakota in Dakota!  Maybe this would be a great community offering or a scout badge project.

I see the plight. I am doing my best to help. I want to do more. I watch all the aid go to foreign countries, and the people here continue to suffer. An atrocity.

As a Lakota Woman living off reservation, but involved in the Indian Community please help end the pain and suffering our people have gone through for decades. The Lakota live in a third world country right here in the USA. For shame.

These people experience the greatest poverty of any group in our nation. I have pledged to do all that I can for them. I want them to have their dignity, culture, and self-respect as a distinct people and nation. Children and families should not have to sleep in homes with no heat. Children regularly freeze to death on the Pine Ridge Reservation during the winter, as the temperature regularly falls below zero.

I have seen your need firsthand when I visited Allen in July 2009 with a church group. We held VBS at the Passcreek Church of God. The church brings backpacks full of school supplies to the children. It was a forever-changing experience. I was fortunate enough to build relationships with the Lakota children. I correspond with a few young girls and my heart is broken for your community. I have tried to raise some awareness of the need and suffering and I support you in your cause! When asked what she really would like to have, an 11 yr old told me she wants an air mattress and comforter because she's tired of sleeping on the floor and couch. Most homes there house 3-4 times the # of people it was intended for. This 11 yr old said she has 7 siblings and her mother is trying to raise them alone. I have 2 children and I couldnt imagine trying to raise them under these conditions, so why are so many forced to do it alone? We are all one people and need to be there for those in need!!!!

As a single mother and grandmother, I know the self-sacrifice required to keep my family clothed, sheltered and fed. I beg corporate America and the citizens of our great country to band together and provide something, anything for our native sisters during their hour of extreme need. Fellow petitioners, please print out copies of this plea for help and circulate them among your churches, places of employment and social circles. Then go to your nearest dollar store, fill a buggy with essentials and DO SOMETHING to help NOW! Please do more than just talk the talk.

The United States Government is NOT living up to their end of treaties they have had with the Native American Tribes for many years. These "Natives" are flesh and blood like you and I. If our government, the "community services", and our "faith-based" organizations can send millions of dollars worth of aid to foreign countries but can't seem to recognize that people in the UNITED STATES are in dire need for shelter, running water, food, clothing, ANY of the products you and I use everyday, then it is left to US (you and me) to help these people to survive. These PEOPLE are NOT asking you to send them NEW items. They need anything you can send: used clothing/shoes of all sizes; baby formula/clothes; feminine products; ANYTHING.......THEY HAVE NOTHING! PLEASE SEND WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP THESE PEOPLE SURVIVE! THANKS.
