280 Million Hens Need Your Help NOW

Over 280 million American hens spend their lives in battery cages that are often no larger than a piece of printer paper. This has been the reality in the United States for as long as we can remember and despite countless cries from animal welfare advocates, nothing has been done about it -- until now.

The Humane Society of the United States and the United Egg Producers have teamed up to draw up unprecedented legislation that could change the face of egg production for the long-term. It is an exciting and long overdue prospect.

In short, this legislation would mean an initial transition to "enhanced colony housing" which would mean up to double the space the birds have now. The next phase would mean mandating environmental changes such as the inclusion of perches and scratch pads in the cages.

Ask your state reps to urgently endorse H.B. 3798 in order to bring relief to over 200 million birds that have been their "cells" for far too long.
We the undersigned are writing to ask that you urgently endorse the new bill H.R. 3798 which would bring great relief to a population of over 280 million suffering hens in the US.

Hundreds of millions of egg-laying hens spend their lives in battery cages that are often no larger than a piece of printer paper. This has been the reality in the United States for as long as we can remember and the US is long overdue for a reform.

This unprecedented legislation could change the face of egg production for the long-term. In short, it would mean an initial transition that would give the birds double the space they have now. The next phase would mean mandating environmental changes such as the inclusion of perches and scratch pads in the cages. These are monumental changes and will lead us towards stemming the unnecessary suffering of battery-caged hens.

Please swiftly endorse H.B. 3798 in order to bring relief to over 200 million birds that have been their "cells" for far too long.
