Montazer Al Zaidi, also known as Montaser El Zaydi is a journalist who works for Al Baghdadi an Iraqi television channel. Montazer became a celebrity overnight after he threw his shoe at the President of United States of America, George W. Bush during a press conference held in baghdad on the 14th of December 2008.

Montazer Al Zaidi was born in 1981, he graduated from the School of Information at the University of Baghdad. Montazer began working with Al Baghdadi satellite television channel in 2005, the tv channel is headquartered in Cairo, Egypt.

He is a balanced and calm person said one of his colleagues, who preferred not to reveal his identity.

His colleague emphasized that Montazer, who got arrested, "rejects the occupation and decent as any Iraqi has the right to express it in a manner that creates timely."

Some of his other colleagues say that Montazer Al Zaidi hates U.S. troops because they caused the death of two of his brothers who belonged to the Al Mahdi Army, loyal to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al Sadr and who has faced fierce fighting in the Iraqi army and the U.S.

"This is the farewell kiss, dog," screamed Al Zaidi at Bush as he was throwing his two shoes.

In the Arab world, simply showing the sole of the shoe, "Gazma," as they call in Egypt, is considered an insult, even worse than calling someone "dog", an animal Muslims regard as "unclean".

This is not the first time that the name of Zaidi jumps to the media since the Nov. 16, 2007 was kidnapped by a group of armed men in Baghdad while on his way from his home in the mostly Shiite neighborhood of the Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, his work in the neighborhood of Al Waziriya, in the north of the capital.

A similar action occured back on the 10th of May 2006, when a Georgian citizen, Vladimir Arutiunián, launched a hand grenade at Bush which failed to explode. Vladimir Arutiunián was arrested at once and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Montazer Al Zaidi got interrogated by the security services of the prime minister of Iraq and formal charge against him are one the way. On the other hand already Montazer Al Zaidi is considered by many Iraqis as a national hero.

Montazer El Zaydi is a hero to more than 60 per cent of Iraqis. He did what millions of citizens of earth would have liked to have done, given a chance. His actions have inspired many to resist tyranny. El Zaydi is a hero of journalism.

This man did no harm to our former idiot President. He did what every American didn't have the guts to do. I praise this man and feel his freedom would greatly improve relations with U.S. and Iraq. Please set this man free and accept his time served as punishment enough. Thanks, Steve

It was a show of pure anger in the most constructive manner. People go to streets every day but whats the impact, Montazer's actions made headlines and got the attention of the whole world without harming anyone. He knew that he could have been killed by the security and he knew that he will certainly be going to jail for this, then why he did it? He did this because he was so angry with Bush and his bullshit, he carried hatred because of the harm bush has done to his family, friends and country that he could not stop himself. He is a constructive person, otherwise he would be fighting in a war against the US and Iraqi army, he did not want any blood shed, I dont think any country's law allows someone to be in prison for more than 2 months for throwing a shoe that did not hurt anyone, with ample warning given before throwing it. I reckon Montazer can write a book or be a politician once he is out.

Bush deserves the insult and more, and Montazer Al Zaidi represents the millions of us who hate and despise Bush and his cohorts. I am a white European from a Christian background and I applaud Montazer Al Zaidi's action - there are millions of us who feel this way. Mr. Al Zaidi should be released from prison - he has a right to free speech and did not physically harm Bush. I believe we have the right to insult a war-monger who has been the cause of so many innocent deaths. Bush (and his pals) is no less a criminal than Osama Bin Laden and should be brought before a tribunal for war crimes - throwing a shoe at him is nothing compared to what he deserves. Let Al Zaidi go!

Let freedom of expression exist- Al Zaidi was not trying to harm anyone, he did not intend to kill. It is well-known that shoe-throwing is a sign of contempt and while it wasn't the most constructive way to voice his opinion, it does not warrant jail time.

Please relieve the charges pressed against this man. I am appalled at the beatings that occurred after the incident, which injured Zaidi far more severely than a shoe would have injured the president. As a supporter of equal human rights I am strongly against the severe charges and injuries that Zaidi has suffered for a crime that even children commit: Throwing shoes, calling names. I live in a city where violent criminals run rampant with guns and knives, and even they escape without these charges. Al Zaidi has lost brothers in this war. Yes, his actions were not legal, but if he had genuine intent of severely harming or even killing the president, weapons far more serious than shoes would have been selected. We have no evidence that he is plotting any other violent attacks toward the president. Zaidi spoke out for those who are struggling to bring the flaws of the Bush Administration to light.

He has my support all the way. The poor guy was so frustrated with the ignorant comments of America's most dim-witted president, that he used he's only ammunition......his shoe, to tell him to shut the F%^$ up and stop pretending he has actually done some good for Iraq. Freemason, evil, oil hungry dick head. May he burn in hell with his Dad and the rest of his clan.

Here to USA's promised demodracy in Iraq. Montazer got his jaw and other bpdy bones broken for an act of protest. Kurdstan TV's reporters who also took part in beating him up... I'm confused here.. do they have a part time job as security guards as well or is that part of their duty as objective journalism??? should we just be happy that this could've never happened during saddam's time?? that he's not executed right away and that just the crap was beaten out of him?? Unless Bush thinks that hsoes are a weapon of mass distruction now... LET THE GUY OUT!!!!

This man should not be in Jail, let him out Please I beg you on behalf of Peace, Love and all the things and people that mean something to you.. Anything to you? He was reacting to how we all feel about Bush… That’s a good thing considering all the people that know Bush is a Dum Dum and don’t react in anyway… Please… He’s a Nice Man tossing his little shoes at the big bad man of the USA.. WTG and Kudos to him.. What’s the problem you should be proud… I completely understand and feel for that brave hero who threw his shoes at Bush. I would be so mad I could only wish I could throw something at him, but I'm not as strong as that individual. He shouldn't get any years in Jail though, he didn't even touch bush with his little shoes. Bush is Directly responsible for so many crimes but for sure the deaths of too many Innocent Iraqis and too many US Troops, shame on him, he deserves a boot in his head not a little shoe. And for sure he is long over due of being impeached and in Jail for all the crimes and killings he's done and encouraged. Maybe the man also knew Bush would Duck from the shoes? Maybe he just wanted to throw something in bush's way, but not hit him? I doubt this man ever hurt a fly, but Bush has hurt more People, more animals, and more Environment then a million fly's attacking a million animals… God what are we going to do about this? Well, I'm going to be taking action everyday until something is done, and all who sign here too I'm sure…

Of course Montaser should not be punished in any way for throwing his shoes at a war criminal. That is the least George Bush and Dick Cheney deserve because the intentional lies they told to start an unjust war ultimately resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent lives including the relatives of Montaser. I applaud what he did it was so brave and extrordinary. Sincerely Dr Robert Daniels
