Let President Obama Know Where You Stand on Food Safety

Target:
The President of the United States
Sponsored by:

President Obama is considering appointing a former Monsanto vice president, Mike Taylor, to head the Food Safety Working Group at the FDA.

As Jill Richardson writes at LaVidaLocavore, Taylor thinks the FDA wastes too much time on food safety inspections at meat packing plants.

If you have read anything about the horrendous working conditions at US meatpacking plants you know food borne illnesses, like the recent outbreaks of E-coli in the food supply can often be traced back to beef slaughter practices that do not protect consumers from contamination.

As noted at the Ethicurean, Mr. Taylor is also responsible for killing legislation that would have compelled producers of milk containing rBGH/rBST to label their product as containing these hormones. Bovine growth hormone is not safe for consumption by humans.

Mr. Taylor may soon be heading up a food safety working group within the FDA.

If you find Mr. Taylor a poor choice for this appointment, please sign the petition.

Mr. President:

We the undersigned urge you to reconsider appointing Mike Taylor to the Food Safety Working Group at the FDA, and to appoint someone who has the best interests of consumers at the forefront of his efforts in same.

The FDA should work to better protect the food supply from contamination by E-coli, and other harmful by-products of unclean production facilities, and from unsafe additives that find their way into milk and other foods.

Mike Taylor's previous association with Monsanto would seem at odds with the requirements of a position which concerns itself with food safety, as he has worked in the past to see that concerns over such were put aside in the interests of profit for corporations.

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter of concern.

I oppose the use of the rBST hormone it is not healthy for human consumption and has numerous health affects on the cows infected with it. All for what. An increase of 10% of the amount of milk produced per cow.

Our country and the laws made to protect us and this planet we share should not be put under the control and guidance of a Corporation or someone who has ties to a corporation that controls over 90% of the worlds food. Its clear that this individual has a hidden agenda and his priorities as a former Vice President for Monsanto is a conflict of interest. No one from Monsanto or any other multi-nation "Owner" of our food supply should be placed in a role to protect us and our food because greedy corporations will always be put first. We are just the voting guinea pigs left in the dark. It's time Big Government and Big Corporation learn "We the People" have a right to put our foots down and demand more, demand better and say enough is enough!

Anyone who used to work for Monsanto has no business being the food safety czar at the the FDA--in the early 1990's, Michael Taylor was an attorney for Monsanto. He was parsing legalese and loopholes for the wonderful group that has brought the world DDT, PCB's, Agent Orange, NutraSweet (aspartame), bovine growth hormone, genetically modified organisms/seeds, toxic pesticides and weed killers (Round Up), and terminator seeds. "Monsanto Mike" also oversaw the FDA ruling that dairy farmers who labeled their products as non rbGH needed to include that the FDA has determined there is no difference between milk from rbGH (bovine growth hormone injected) cows and non rbGH cows, which is completely false. Michael Taylor's connection to Monsanto and corporate promotion of profitable poisons into the world's food supply makes him an egregious choice to head the FDA's Food Safety Working Group.

Food safety is something that we can all agree is of paramount importance, and the FDA should be the first line of defense against contamination. The President should be appointing those who feel strongly that consumers deserve more protection than corporations who are only concerned with their profit margins. Lives are more important than money. When will people understand that?

All politicians who have ties with Monsanto (especially monetary) demonstrate they do not care about the people of this country - I will do all I can to spread the word about them to get them voted out. In the meantime, Obama's betrayal to the American people by this decision is another sad day - hopefully sad enough for Americans to WAKE UP!

We need to start caring about what is being added to our food.Other countries won't accept food items from us that have all the additives,so why do we accept it?

Enough! No more Monsanto ties to government! This corporation is poisoning the planet. GMO foods are KILLING PEOPLE! Children are extremely vulnerable and no amount of 'affordable healthcare' will be enough to pay for the illnesses of the next generation. I encourage everyone to buy ORGANIC and to pray that the Organic Farmers crops have not been contaminated by this despicable, greedy corporation. This is a GLOBAL problem and it all began here in the US with the monsanto corporation. I will NOT VOTE FOR ANYONE WITH TIES TO MONSANTO!

Be the man of change you kept telling us about. Make this the first big change, stop the connections and controls within the government by Monsanto and other Big Agro Companies. It is blatant conflict of interest to have these people in positions to affect our food supply holding government position. Too many of the new bills being introduced are so obviously about control and not food safety. This appointment would be yet further proof of those that are really telling the government to do what they want and not what is in the interest and for the safety of the citizens. It is time the revolving door between the FDA and Monsanto be stopped. Do some research read or see the documentary "Seeds of Suicide," and watch the documentary "The World According to Monsanto." Find out why Monsanto and it's products, including their seeds, plants and chemicals are being banned from one country after another. People come from Monsanto and/or go to Monsanto after they have made sure the regulations and oversights are in favor of Monsanto and the big agro companies and not about the health, safety or wishes of the citizens that elected the officials that have appointed them. If you are a man of your word, make this change, DO NOT appoint Mike Taylor, yet another Monsanto person. This company and all those connected to it are not interested in Health, Safety or the well being of the people. They are about controlling the food supply, so their chemicals are used, only products with their antibiotic treatment and their genetic engineering takes over and that only their seeds can be bought. Doing all this without the consent or knowledge of the people they inflict the dangers upon. Ask them why they don't want milk from their rBGH cattle labeled as such. Don't the people have the right to make their own choices about what they and their families ingest. Read the independent scientific reports that have proven the rBGH causes specific Cancers in humans. Why have the scientist from Monsanto that warned and reported dangers, even deadly affects were fired and their reports buried. Don't the people deserve to know what is in the food they're ingesting? PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT APPOINT MIKE TAYLOR OR ANY OTHER PERSON WITH ANY TIES TO MONSANTO ESPECIALLY, OR TO ANY OTHER LARGE INDUSTRIAL AGRO COMPANY.
