Lets get Highlandtown a Street Sweeper!

Highlandtown residents and business owners

Lets get Highlandtown Clean Again!

Tired of seeing trash all over the street directly in front of your house? Worn-out from being the only person that cleans your street religously? Upset that nothing is being done? Well your not the only one!

The majority of us that live, work, and play here in Highlandtown are very respectful of our surroundings, and make sure that our garbage makes it into a trash can. We want our blocks to be as free of trash and debri as Charles Village, Baltimore Street directly north of the Park, and Fells Point.

I feel as though those of us that care, are doing everything that we can do, and are now in need of assistance from the city. One person on a block picking up trash everyday can only do so much, we need the strength and speediness of a street sweeper or something similar.

While we dont know where this street sweeper will come from yet (City of Baltimore, Private donations, or grant funds), we need to at least begin to voice our opinion to Cleaner Greener Baltimore, The Mayor's Office, Councilman Kraft, and the Highlandtown Community Association.

Please, please, please, if you are tired of seeing the streets of Highlandtown littered with trash sign this petition, and help us change this neghborhood for the better. I will be presenting this information at the Highlandtown Community Association Meeting April 22.

Also, if you know of someone that doesnt have the internet that would like to sign a petition, email me at kbernhard@usa.com with their name and address and I will take a paper copy to them.

Thanks for your time, and I believe if we all unite as one, we can make Highlandtown the best neighborhood in Baltimore City!

To Whom it May Concern:

We the undersigned are tired of seeing the streets of Highlandtown littered with trash and debris. Because of this, we are interested in persuing the possibility of Street Sweeping, or a similar procedure throughout the Highlandtown Community. We believe this can be done easily, and provide a huge benefit in the quality of life for Highlandtown residents.

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to seeing a truley Greener Cleaner Baltimore.

Homeowners and merchants alike care very much about "Highlandtown", there is no better way to show this than to have a clean community!

As a former homeowner in Highlandtown I strongly support this petition. I spent my Saturday mornings sweeping junk. It is time to get with it and spruce it up a bit!

A street sweeper is a great investment the city should make for every neighborhood. There is strong evidence that proves the cleanliness or perceived cleanliness of a neighborhood have a direct impact on crime and revitalization. Specific to Highlandtown, a sweeper should clean not only the main corridors, such as Eastern Avenue, or the center of the neighborhood but should circulate throughout the entire neighborhood so the whole neighborhood improves and we are not left with "the dirty block".

I pick up trash every day, but it still keeps blowing in. Please help!

The time has come to make this happen. Our individual efforts are not enough anymore. The city and/or state should help with this if they expect us to keep paying higher taxes.

Let's see our property taxes at work - street sweepers not only help keep vermin away, they will help instill some civic pride in the community and make us all better citizens. This isn't a "what if", it's a "must do".

Streetsweepers are an integral part of polishing Highlandtown. Keeping one's black clan won't seem like such a daunting task if we don't have to go at it alone.
