Let's Have a Nationally Televised Healthcare Debate!

Target:
The President, Congress, and all Major News Organizations
Sponsored by:
While we've spent the last few months generating lots of angry heat over healthcare reform pro-and-con, we've spent more time focusing on firearms, death panels, green protein biscuits made from old people, and Obama's Hitler moustache.  We've been subjected to a blizzard of fear/hate angry commercials lobbed like artillery from one side to the other.  What we HAVEN'T seen is a side-by-side, real-time comparison of the pros and cons of healthcare reform.  The premise of this petition is simple:  A "DEBATE" ISN'T A DEBATE WITHOUT A DEBATE.  We intend to present this petition to the President, to Congress, and to all the media outlets on cable and broadcast DEMANDING AN ACTUAL LIVE NATIONALLY TELEVISED CONVERSATION ON HEALTHCARE REFORM.  Will you sign?  Let's stop the nonsense and start making intelligent choices for our future!

We, the undersigned, call upon the President and the Congress to endorse a nationally televised debate (or series of debates) on the subject of healthcare reform, giving the American people the opportunity for a side-by-side comparison of the options presented by the major parties to this debate, pro-and-con.

We further call upon the national news media, charged occasionally with providing the public service function mandated in their licensure responsibilities by the Federal Communications Commission, to perform this service to the nation at this critical time.

If--as all parties to this pivotal debate seem to concur--the decisions we make in the next few weeks could have lasting consequences for the American people and future generations, we the people deserve and demand the opportunity to have a clear and unbiased presentation of the choice we face.

This petition will be circulated--along with a list of written petitioners' names--simultaneously to the above petitioned parties.

Sincerely,
The Petition Signatories

I have no health care. Pretty much thanks for nothing in the new bill. You have mandated I get insurance I still cannot afford. It's going to be cheaper to pay the fine and continue to use emergency room for primary care. Again, thanks for making my life even harder.

I believe the more objective information is shared, the better. Let's have "both sides" agree to tell the truth in a televised forum

This year my family will spend 20% of it's GROSS income on healthcare, while saving less than 2% of our income for retirement. Not a good plan for long term sustainabililty. We don't have insurance for our grocery purchases- something we need on a regular basis to stay healthy. Health care is no different. How does insurance lower the cost of a basic necessity? Answer: It doesn't!

It's way past time for this, so let's all make it happen! So many Tea Party people really didn't have a clue, but they bought into everything the opposition (Dick Armey & Co) told them, including villifying our President and using racial epithets as well. I am so disgusted with what's happening in our country. Gee, even Laura Bush said "Obama is doing a good job." She also bemoaned the extreme partisanship the Republicans are spewing out. So let's go for the national debate! I'd even suggest a few of them!

Our healthcare system is a real mess and in dire need of major overhaul. Cost of minor procedures, such as "stitches" to close minor lacerations, typically end up costing thousands of $$. In other countries, cost would be less than $100. I know this from discussions with my colleagues from other countries. This is just one example, there are many others. I look forward to a real national debate!

When 33 million people watch a Presidential address on a topic, it's time for a public debate that is free from any political agenda. The American people deserve to hear what's in the proposed health care legislation. And Congress needs to be able to act fairly without fear of losing their next race because their constituents believe a pack of lies. Fill the need, here.

we need people to stop lying and creating demons where there are none. We need a civil society. We need people to remember the less fortunate ones. We need to remind Christians what Christ would have done. We need to be compassionate and kind. We also need to be real and find a way through this.

A national debate will help to clarify the argument for HC reform. Clarification that is BADLY needed if we are to discuss this issue in a democratic and civilised manner.

We must educate ourselves and think critically about these issues. We must have transparency and reason. We must listen and critically evaluate. We cannot afford to be neglectful anymore. We cannot afford to let narrow sited and short-term interests guide decisions that lead us to ruin. “The gross national product and the corporate bottom line are utterly meaningless as measures of the prosperity or health of the country” Wendell Berry

It is time for truth and debate vs the industries spreading the lies and confusing the issues we are facing. It is vital to have real reform and I for one will be facing losing our health insurance and will have preexisting conditions and with the job loss trying to afford the meds will be concerning. We as Americans are being taken advantage of by those with the power and money to stop real reform. It is a moral issue and wrong.
