For 20 years, now, Liane Hansen has been dominating the Weekend Edition Quiz on NPR. The poor contestants answered Will Shortz' question, had their answer chosen (at random), and now have their moment of stardom. And what happens? Liane Hansen jumps in, answers the questions, and then patronizingly tells the contestant that "we made a good team!"
Liane, BE QUIET! Let the contestant ask for your help!
She does have a lovely speaking voice, though.

Liane, It's not that I'm saying, "Shaddap a'ready!" You're smart, entertaining, and you sound good. But here's the thing: if I were your teammate and had the answer, I'd want to give it. After all, you're always on. I'm not. If I didn't have the answer, that long, vocalized pause would let you know. If I weren't sure, I would want to consult, which gets you on and, let's face it, we'd probably go with your answer. I'm not sure how much consultation is allowed because I haven't heard it done (that just says it all, doesn't it?), but I remember Bill Cullen on Password, who taught me that quite specific rules may be subject to interpretation if you're funny enough. Liane, play nice! Please.
