I started this petition to give a voice to a cause close to the hearts of many of us. The United States of America is suppose to be the land of the free. Free to love, free to live and free to be happy, But some of us are still treated as though we are less than. Our love is less than our "life styles" are "alternative". This petition is being created for homosexuals and their supporters to stand up for same sex marraiges. Love is fluent and universal. we don't want more rights than anyone else just the same rights. We just want to love eachother openly and freely. To celebrate and finalize our commitments. To grow old together the same way a heterosexual couple would.

When I got married two years ago, the only sad moment of my wedding was when a gay couple caught the bouquet I realized that they could not do what my husband I just did. My husband is of Latin descent, and I of white, and once, we wouldn't have been able to marry. I have MS, and I live 3000 miles from any blood relatives. If I were to go into the hospital, if major decisions needed to be made, what would I do if I were in a gay relationship? Think back to the struggle of Martin Luther King and of your community. I stand behind you in every way, and have even defended you on the gay rights issue, over your choice of Rick Warren as pastor, but this decision on behalf of your justice department to file the brief that was filed today, is just offensive to many who voted for you, and contributed to your campaign. My 88 year old Grandmother who voted for you, and fought for civil rights, her best friends who help take care of her, they are gay, and cannot enjoy the rights that I have with my husband and it's not right. They all voted for you hoping for change on this issue. They aren't getting it. I know, many democrats are not ready for gay marriage. I know that it is a large part of how George Bush was re-elected. Many people fear equal rights for gays. But many people feared equal rights for African Americans. Would you be president if it wasn't for fierce advocacy for civil rights? Would many of you be in the Senate and Congress? Please repeal DOMA. Please repeal don't ask don't tell. Please make good on your campaign promise to be an advocate for the gay community. They help you get elected. They will help get you all re-elected. Thank you for so many of the choices you have made, and the good you have done so far. Please do more good here!!
