President Eisenhower warned us of the Military Industrial Complex and his concerns have been realized. "We" are profiting from the death and destruction of poor people as our leaders and tv & radio entertainers fear monger and propagate hate. Everybody cashes in except the children of the West Bank and Gaza. They don't hate us for our freedom. They hate us because the barrels of the guns they stare down were made and sold in the USA.

Unless the United States and Israel are somehow exempt from complying with international law, something must be done in order to assure us that such atrocities aren't being done in our name.

As a native Arkansan, I am shocked to learn that white phosphorus manufactured in this very state has been used in crowded urban areas by the Israeli military. This is a clear violation of international law, and a stain upon our great state. And as your constituent, I implore you to investigate.

We truly need to be more honest and realistic and even-handed in dealing with issues such as these. After all, it is the status quo policy that is a principle cause of Muslim/Arab's harboring hatred, terrorism, & 9-11. The current policy course is endangering Americans and threatening our security. We need to be intelligent.

Morally and legally, we should do everything we can to ensure that US weapons, and specifically weapons from Arkansas, are not used in war crimes such as the killing of innocent children. A full investigation of these matters is critical, as we must insure that we are not complicit in international atrocities.

I appreciate the efforts that you all have made in the Senate and Congress to both faithfully represent your constituency in Arkansas and to keep us informed of what is going on and how it impacts us. This issue is important to myself as a global citizen as well as to my friends who have family and love ones in Gaza, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Thank you for continuing to lead through service!

Dear Senators and Representatives, I care deeply about the suffering in the Middle East. Please do not permit our weapons to be used without ascertaining that they will not be used against civilians. It is clear that white phosphorous weapons from the state of Arkansas have been used against civilian targets in Gaza. This is both illegal and unacceptable. I ask you to please bring this matter to the attention of Congress and do NOT tolerate this abuse of our power. We are a superpower and, as such, bear a great responsibility to protect the weak. That is your job and your burden. Sincerely, Clea Bunch

Honorable Senators and Congressman, The most significant issue that engages me currently is how the U.S. government is aiding Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict without understanding the morals of the Israeli during this divergence. Contrary to popular belief, this conflict is not simply about one country occupying another country’s land, but rather much more complex. It is about the Israeli government using U.S. aid – collected from American taxpayers – in order to force occupation of Israeli troops in Palestine to acquire land by destroying villages and displacing native Palestinians. Furthermore, it is not one army versus another in a war of territory, much like several battles throughout history. This occupation of Israeli troops in Palestine has resulted in countless deaths of Palestinian civilians, and they are able to do so due to U.S. involvement. Strictly speaking, having financial and military aid in such crises is beneficial, but the circumstance makes this decision questionable. Not only has the U.S. been supporting the unorthodox killing of Palestinian civilians, but people living in America have no choice but to support it as well due to the portion of taxes that serves as financial support for the Israeli cause. By doing so, the U.S. government has made it impossible for the people who do not support Israeli war tactics to have a voice on the matter since all Americans pay taxes. Furthermore, from 1949 to 2006, the U.S. has provided Israel with $108 billion worth of support, or $6 to $8 million per day. Even more startling, of the total aid that the U.S. gives annually Israel receives one-third, leaving only two-thirds for countries who are worse off and could use more assistance. In March 2003, the U.S. government approved $10 billion in aid for Israel, yet withheld a $3.5 billion grant to upgrade the training of U.S. first responders (i.e., doctors, policemen, etc). If that $10 billion had been spent domestically, it could have bought “health care coverage for 4,202,251 children without proper coverage” or paid for 1,445,573 children to attend “Headstart” children development programs to prepare them for school. Personally, the idea of the U.S. providing financial aid to a country killing for territory should be less of a priority than the U.S.’s internal issues, such as medical advances or to “help states offset the costs of one of the worst fiscal crises in half a century.” It is no surprise that a majority of Americans support Israel during this conflict in the mid-east. This is mainly because of the vast influence of the media when it comes to expressing U.S. support, which carries out to the viewers as well. The media portrays mid-east violence as an “inherent part of the culture and region, implying that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an ancient problem with little hope or solution” and that “there has been conflict between Arabs and Jews for thousands of years.” The U.S. media uses false beliefs like these in order to divert the public’s attention away from internal matters, such as the recent economic problems, and also to gain support by fragmenting information to benefit the U.S. cause. American society is being deprived of the whole truth and real facts due to the U.S. media lying through omission or manipulation of information. Even during the Oslo Process, Americans were told that a peace process was being worked out, yet Israeli destruction of Palestinian homes and villages continued and the amount of Israeli settlements in Palestine doubled. Furthermore, the media portrays Israel as a “little country surrounded by hostile Arabs,” when in fact it is the 5th largest nuclear power in the world, with two to three hundred nuclear warheads. The U.S. media fails to mention the Palestinian homes that are destroyed, the futures that are ruined, or the Palestinian children that are killed by heavily armed Israeli soldiers. The media doesn’t mention how a woman pays an Israeli soldier to spare the life of her beaten brother, yet he proceeds to shoot him in the head five times, nor does it mention how an American student traveled to Palestine to help prevent Palestinian homes being demolished, only to be intentionally ran over by a bulldozer with no intention to even hesitate to spare a life. The American people are not ignorant, but rather blindfolded by the U.S.’s half-truths. The U.S. is providing Israel with financial and military support, yet do the people of the U.S. even know what their tax money is supporting? It is supporting uninvolved Palestinian civilians dying on the streets as bombs rain down their heads; it is supporting homes and villages being demolished, only to be replaced by Israeli settlements with water, electricity, and some even with swimming pools while the displaced Palestinians lived in tents at refugee camps; it is supporting 700,000 Palestinian civilians being robbed of their homes and 400 out of 500 Palestinian villages being decimated; it is supporting Palestinian children being too scared to even go to school without the fear of tear gas or Israeli soldiers firing upon them, unaccustomed to a life where there were no buildings with bullet holes; it is supporting universities being closed down and the futures of the young generations being ruined. What is the U.S.’s reasoning for such undivided support for Israel? Not only has the U.S. provided them with financial and military aid, but the U.S. has also used its Veto power “more than 40 times in the U.N. to defend Israeli violations of International law.” The Israeli’s have violated the rules of the Fourth Geneva Convention by building settlements and roads on Palestinian territory, expropriating Palestinian land, deporting Palestinian people, restricting their freedom of movement, and making them “unemployed and impoverished”, and by harming their economy. The U.S. still, however, defends Israel and continues their support. This is mainly due to the fact that the U.S.’s main concern is the oil producing regions for their economic agenda. Lastly, Christians in the U.S., although their beliefs conflict with those of Judaism, believed that it “was God’s will for the Jews to [take that land].” This state sponsored aggression must stop and my tax money must go to a better cause. Therefore, I need your help and support. Thank for your time. C. Bayrak, Ph.D.

When the USA is the biggest arms dealer in the world, something is very wrong with our "Family Values." Please be a strong advocate for the women and children in the world by investigating what we are doing to allow our weapons to be used to kill and maime women and children - and men, too.

Peace is not the absence of war--it is the absence of the rules of war and the threats of war and the preparations for war.
