Make Austin No-Kill!

Target:
Concerned Austinites
Sponsored by:

In 2007, 13065 homeless pets were killed at Town Lake Animal Shelter in Austin, TX.   Why?  Not "because there are too many animals and not enough homes" (if that were true, there'd be no market for pets - pet stores would not be able to sell pets and breeders would not be able to sell pets), but because Town Lake Animal Shelter refuses to implement the proven no-kill equation of Nathan Winograd, instead preferring the unproven "Mission Orange" system of the ASPCA - maybe because the ASPCA gave the City $300,000?

Animal activists in Austin have tried for years to work with existing shelter management to no avail.  Nathan Winograd was brought in to help us achieve no-kill status and the Assistant Shelter Director, Dorinda Pulliam, refused to work with him.

We have decided it is time to fight back by getting Mr. Winograd's excellent Companion Animal Protection Act passed by City Council.   If existing shelter management will not work with us voluntarily, the time has come to force them to work with us, before more animals die.
Please sign the petition to make Austin a No-Kill City by passing the Companion Animal Protection Act - and email your city council members as well!

Please stop the massacre of dogs and cats at shelters. These animals deserve a fair chance at a good life. I am willing to support no-kill efforts in any physical or financial way possible.

People need to speak up for these inocent victims that we all love so much. These animals deserve a chance to live more than ever. They pay for the mistakes that humanity makes with their lives. Animals put a smile on everyones face no matter what. There needs to be stronger inforced laws against people who committ any crime involved with an animal.I think that people have evolved and become wiser when it comes to helping themselves. We need to turn that around and do something for these helpless animals. For the animals that dont get adopted out because of being an older pet or for their breed or any other reason need to be thought of. Ideas need to be brought up for them. There needs to be a second chance home for these animals not just a foster home or euthanization options. We need to be open minded and figure out ways these unwanted animals can live.

MY COMMENT IS DIRECTED AT DORINDA PULLIAM AND OTHERS LIKE HER. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO ALL BE GOD'S CREATURES. WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHICH OF HIS CREATURES SHOULD BE PUT DOWN. {YOU LADY}{AND I USE THE TERM VERY LOOSELY,} ARE IN THE WRONG JOB. I THINK YOU'RE AFRAID MR. WINOGRAD'S COMPASSION FOR ANIMALS WILL MAKE PEOPLE REALIZE WHAT A LOW LIFE PERSON YOU ARE. YOU'RE AFRAID OF LOSING THE POWER YOU THINK YOU HAVE BY CONDEMNING DEFENSELESS ANIMALS TO DEATH. ANIMAL ABUSE AND CHILD ABUSE GO HAND IN HAND. "WATCH OUT FOR THE KIDS"

I will be much more likely to be a financial backer in shelters that have a No-Kill Policy.

Why did I think Town Lake was already a no-kill shelter? I know they are moving the shelter to east Austin, somewhere off of the toll road, claiming there's more room to train. As a long time supporter of this movement in Austin, Texas, making it a no-kill shelter is the right thing to do and should have been done yesterday! Take a page from the Williamson Cty Humane Society on Crystal Falls Road! They know the challeneges of helping every single dog, cat, rabbit, etc. What the heck is wrong with Austin and the city council? They are suppose to be progressive and savvy on animal welfare and how it translates to compassion and a better place to live. Here's an address of a member who platforms on being progressive: Council Member Brewster McCracken brewster@brewstermccracken.org Let's put it to the test!
