Make Invitro-fertilization a procedure covered by all health insurance companies in Florida

Make Invitro-fertilization a procedure covered by all health insurance companies in Florida

Target:
Governor Christ, Senator Bill Nelson & Senator Mel Martinez
Sponsored by:

There are many women (and men) who are longing to have children who can give them an excellent home and who have been trying for years to conceive. Many women spend thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to concieve and end up giving up because they have gone broke in the process.  This is made even more sad by the fact that others are getting pregnant, having abortions or leaving them for dead.

Infertility can be caused by many factors. It can be caused by a disease called Endometriosis or many other infertility problems ranging from male factor infertility to tubal blockages in women, just to name a couple.

In my quest, I could not find a health insurance company that would cover the costs of Invitro-fertilization. I feel that insurance companies should help in paying for IVF and other treatments to those who are struggling. IVF is so expensive that some women actually completely give up their dream of having children simply because of the cost.

This is a medical problem and as all other medical problems are covered by insurance, why are infertility treatments not covered?

I thought I'd start in my state of Florida and then hopefully other states will follow.

We the undersigned are hereby requesting that you urge all Florida health insurance companies to provide coverage for fertility treaments, including but not limited to invitro-fertilization. According to National Survey of Family Growth, CDC 1995, approximately 6.1 million women and their partners in the U.S. are affected by infertility. Most couples dream of having a family only to have this dream shattered because the woman, or in some cases the man, is unable to conceive. There are many reasons a couple may be infertile ranging from endometriosis to unexplained infertility. Infertility treatments are very expensive and may deplete a couples finances or worse cause the couple to give up on their dream of having children completely because it is so expensive.

We believe that every couple deserves to have a family and deserves to have this family without it costing them thousands of dollars or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Thirteen other states have already mandated insurance companies to cover infertility procedures. Please help make this dream a reality for our men and women in our State of Florida.

Thank you.

In 2006, after many years of infrequent menstrual cycles and not being pregnant, I found out that I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. I'm 33 now, married for 9 years to my wonderful husband, cannot afford invitro, my insurance does not cover this procedure, and we would like to try to have out own biological child(ren) before we consider other options.

I work for an OB/GYN and see the heartache EVERY single day of women that can't get pregnant either naturally or with Clomid so they are sent off from our office to an infertility specialist and most come back with the heartbreaking news that after IUI the next step is IVF but they can't because they don't have 15,000.00-25,000.00 out of pocket to spend. Why is it that Viagra is covered on most insurance plans but not infertility procedures? The hardworking, kid loving citizens of the United States are starting to take drastic measures going to other countries to get these procedures done because they are so much cheaper but run the risk of huge complications. We just had a patient come back from Egypt that had IVF done, only paid 5000.00 out of pocket and just found out today she is NOT pregnant! It didn't take. :( How sad for her that she put so much effort into it and didn't get anything for it. Please sign to help all of our loved one's have families.

My husband and I cannot have children and would give anything to be able to afford IVF. Unfortunately that is not a reality for us as with a lot of US and Canadian Citizens. If IVF were to be covered it would make a lot of infertile couple's dreams come true.

I chose a health plan specifically because it covered in vitro. It really is hard for people who have the opportunity to reproduce to understand the devastating heart ache of not being able to have kids. My fallopian tubes are blocked. It will be hard for me to get pregnant. I work with kids in the NICU everday, and it is pain-staking to realize that for me motherhood might not be possible. Help us by covering in vitro.

I am 27 years old, and me and my husband have been trying to get pregnant for almost 5 years now. I am covered under both of our insurance companies. We finally found a great doctor and have some hope with IUI, but if that doesn't work, we'll have to move to IVF and there is no way we could afford the 15,000.00+ out of pocket it would cost for that treatment. As it is, we have to scrimp and save in order to pay for my office visits and ultrasounds. I would be willing to pay "extra" to have this coverage included in my medical insurance, but no company that I have found in Florida does this. I think it is ludicrous that people can get coverage for things to prevent pregnancies like tubal ligation, vasectomies etc. but we cannot get coverage for becoming pregnant.

I am a 23 year old woman who is facing the possibilty of having to use medical methods in order to get pregnant. I am not rich and I do not live off of my Daddy's money; I am a college student who works full time to get by until I do obtain my degree. But I believe that everyone has the right to become a parent and that the insurance companies should have cover the cost of these very expensive procedures. Thank you for your time.
