Maldonado for Pelham Town Justice

Dear Pelhamites:

Due to the recent resignation of Justice Stephen Huff, who has served on the court with distinction for over thirty years, a vacancy exists on our Town Court.  The Town Board needs to fill this vacancy.  Please sign my petition, which asks the Town Board to appoint me on an interim basis until the next election in November 2012, based on my qualifications and the results of the November 2011 election.

We Pelham Republicans and Democrats urge the Pelham Town Board to appoint Mercedes Maldonado as a Town Justice until the next general election in November 2012 to fill the vacancy created by Justice Stephen Huff's resignation. This would be a fitting and symbolic bipartisan action that has become common in our Town.

Ms. Maldonado ran for this office in November 2011 and knocked on hundreds of doors to hear the concerns of residents. She had an outstanding showing, coming in third out of the five candidates and just behind Justice Huff. Also important, she had the most votes in the Village of Pelham. We think the expressed will of the voters in this very recent election should be given great weight.

Ms. Maldonado is eminently qualified, as she has worked for 20 years in a private law practice. She is knowledgeable about municipal codes and issues, as she has been the Village Attorney in Pelham for the last three years. Her background as a working mother and village resident would bring a fresh and positive perspective to the Town Court.
Thank you for considering our recommendation.
