Keep Mandarin Shelter Open

Recent news has announced that the Jacksonville City Council has decided to close our Mandarin adoption center effective September 2011.   We simply cannot allow this to happen and ask that you read and sign our petition to Jacksonville City Council and Mayor Brown requesting that they reverse their decision.  Time is of the essence, therefore we need everyone who is concerned with local animal welfare not only to sign this petition, but to forward it to everyone you can think of.

The Mandarin Satellite location performs a critical service to our local community.  Without their loving care of the hundreds and thousands of animals they have rescued and placed for adoption over the years, most of these dogs and cats would have been euthanized.  Now more than ever, with economic hardships affecting so many families who simply can no longer afford to keep their beloved pets, Jacksonville Animal Control is an absolute necessity and one of the few lifelines available to the ever growing numbers of dogs and cats who are in need of loving homes. Jacksonville is the largest city in America and the fact that our city only runs one city animal shelter is ridiculous, we need this shelter to stay open....it's a necessity!

Please join us in petitioning the Jacksonville Council Members and Mayor Brown to revisit their budget and find somewhere else to take the $40k needed to keep this place open!.

Our goal is 9,323 signatures because that is the number of animals killed in 2010 in Jacksonville Animal Control Center. That number will drastically rise if Mandarin Center is closed! This is in memory of the 9,323 animals that we couldn't save. The lives of untold numbers of dogs and cats hang in the balance.  Please don't let them down.
We the animal supporters of Jacksonville ask that you please keep the Mandarin Adoption Center open. This site is a vital existence in our community and is a wonderful addition to our city. Jacksonville has came a long way with it's humane care for our homeless animals in the past 4 years...please do not take 10 steps backwards in closing this shelter. The shelter adopts out 800-1000 animals per year, that's 800-1000 animals NOT in the downtown location taking up space and that's 800-1000 animals that get to live and not die! Let's be a role model for neighboring cities by keeping this shelter open and moving forward with our vision of no more homeless animals!!! We can do this with your support! Thank you for your time and we really hope and pray that you change your mind!

Sincerely,

Homeless Pets of Jacksonville
