Meditation Should Be Taught In Schools

Target:
School Boards
Meditation should be taught in schools to help students learn how to cultivate inner peace and relaxation. Just sitting fifteen minutes per day in a quiet setting (classroom, library) could do so much to help students learn to be at peace. Meditation has many benefits including
· Improved Ability to Focus
- Increased Creativity
· Deeper Level of RelaxationImproved Perception and Memory
· Development of Intelligence
· Natural Change in Breathing-Decrease in Stress Hormone
· Lower Blood Pressure
· Reduced Need for Medical Care
· Increased Self-Actualization
 - Increased Strength of Self-Concept
· Decreased Cigarette, Alcohol, and Drug Abuse
· Increased Productivity
· Improved Relations at Work
· Increased Relaxation and Decreased
· Improved Health and More Positive Health Habits

Teaching children at an early age (middle school) is a positive habit they can invoke their entire lives. No religious, philosophical agendas are needed or should be pushed. Just sit in a room for fifteen minutes and learn to quiet one's thoughts. Meditation has such tremendous value. It would do wonders for our children to learn this skill. I am in favor of Transcendental Meditation in schools. It is the most widely researched with proven results. Improves focus and study habits and overall better grades. Not to mention bad habits drop off. Would be very beneficial for student unrest and disciplinary problems. Recent research shows that it has been very successful with ADD problems.

Practising meditations can bring peace in the student's mind, and make their learning better. It should be included in school programs.

It should be taught because meditation is a life-long skill.

I entirely agree with you how meditation can play a positive role in calming down children and making them better human beings. I have seen and experienced it myself when Falun Gong, the chinese exercise and meditation practice was introduced in schools in Bangalore, India. The hyperactive children calmed down and started showing amazing results in their academics. Many school teachers and Principals have also taken to the practice. The practice is taught free of cost and has spread by word of mouth to more than 50 schools in and around Bangalore city. You could find more information on www.falundafa.org

If students were to learn about a safe, healthy way to deal with stress early in life through their schools. They would then be able to face problems, like drinking, smoking, using drugs to maintain their stress, in a whole new light.
