Melissa is a bright, smart, strong and amazing girl. She lives life to the fullest and is one of happiest people I have ever known. I've known Melissa her whole life. And I couldn't be more thankful.
On January 24th, 2012 in Clearwater, Florida, she was brutally attacked outside her home by her ex-boyfriend. Melissa was stabbed in the head and neck over 17 times. A total of over 30 times.
Two passer-bys came upon the situation and saved Melissa's life. The man wrestled her ex-boyfriend Robert (Bobby) Burton off of Melissa.  They are God-sent!! Bobby got into a car and drove away. Melissa was bayflighted to Bayfront Medical Center. She was listed in critical condition. Bobby was later found after overdosing on unknown pills and crashed his car in another county, further endangering others. 

Melissa underwent hour and hours of work and major surgeries. She died 4 times, and she needed 12 pints of blood. But the doctors and Melissa didnt give up! She is alive! She is still fighting for her life, she will not give up.

She is loved by so many in our community. She works at a hospital, goes to school, and volunteers in the NICU. This girl does so much I don't have enough time to list all her amazing adventures.

Melissa had a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend; he has attacked her before. But as we all know, a piece of paper will not stop bullets or a knife.

We need to stop this. Too many people are being attacked and killed. People with  arrests for violent domestic/attacks/stalkers who and/or get a restraining order against them should be monitored. THESE ATTACKERS  SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE MONITOR! They should not be allowed to get near the victim, their home or workplace. These innocent people should not have to worry about looking over their shoulder their whole lives or lying awake over countless sleepless nights. They should not be punished by living in fear!

I ask everyone who loves anyone - let's do something about this. It could very well be someone you know next. It happens in the blink of an eye and we are never prepared. Bobby failed to kill Melissa! We are truly lucky and blessed this didn't turn out more badly than it did. But one day he might be on the street again, and Melissa and everyone else in the world should never have to worry about that. 

If we cant lock them up forever than we need something other then a piece of paper. The families of the victims are left to pay for the costs of medical treatment, surgeries, therapies, and in most cases, funerals.

We have the means to do this. Why not put it to real use. Something HAS to be done about this. We create all these other laws. The government spends all this other money to monitor other people to "protect us", why not these people. They are a real danger as well.  The government makes all these taxes. Why not spend some of it on protecting those who need it?

If you harrass,stalk,and attack someone, and in most cases over and over, Then you give up your right to a living a free life. You are a danger to society. And should be treated as such. Why should the victim be punished? What about their rights and freedoms to live a happy free life?   

  This family can use all the support it can get - donations, or just prayers.

We need to come together and protect each other. Several friends and family members have started to put together fundraisers and support pages. They are going door to door, spreading the word.

Melissa has touched so many lives. I am calling for everyone to step up! MAKE THIS KNOWN! PASS IT ALONG! SHARE WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW! LETS MAKE THIS NATIONAL! LETS PROTECT OUR LOVED ONES! I am putting together petitons to take around locally as well. But knowing the internet is the fastest way to reach people world wide, I am starting here! Write your local and state reps, your congressmen! LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD! WE LOVE YOU MELISSA!


Melissa's Law-
-Monitor Offenders of Violent Domestic/Attacks/stalkers who and/or recieve a restraining order against themselves.

-Warning systems to victims by text,email,phone call, alert box.
-Monitored violations of restraining orders be alerted to police dispatch

-Provisions of Violent violations of restraining carry attempted murder charges.

-Names of perpetrators, judges, defense attorney's names who allow the violent offenders to be released should be published in local news outlets and through internet sources, media outlets,websites.

-Provisions for no bail, no bond under certain circumstances (like those faced by Melissa). 

-Stronger penalties/fines.

-Required that offenders take anger classes (at offenders' cost).

-Required that offenders do community service.

-Required that offenders receive therapy (at offenders' cost).

-Longer sentences.

-Strike system for repeat offenders.

-Domestic violence charges must be available for all to see (i.e. public records, websites, media outlets, internet sources.)

-Victim should be personally informed of impending release of their offender by personal phone call and/or personal visit and documentation that victim acknowledges they received the phone call and/or visit by signed form.

We the undersigned,

This is regarding the recent brutal attack of a member of the community. Melissa Dohme.  Melissa is an amazing person and citizen. Her smile can melt an iceburg. She is 20 years old. Works full time at a hospital. Volunteers in the Nicu. Goes to school. She is involved in alot of stuff and loved by MANY people. She is kind and brave, she is gentle and compassionate. There are too many ways to explain this girl and not enough time.  On January 24th.  In Clearwater. Over 17 times.  Two God sent witnesses were walking by and saw the attack.  The man wrestled Robert (Bobby) Burton off of Melissa. Bobby ran to his car and drove away. Melissa was flown to Bayfront Medical Center. She was listed as critical. By the grace of God, she is alive! This strong girl fighting  for her life. Bobby on the other hand ODs on unknown pills and crashing his car in another county. Again showing no respect for other citizans. She died 4 times, she needed 12 pints of blood. She underwent hours and hours of work.  She underwent two major surgeries. Melissa truly is something special. And the Doctors saw it too. They said there is something about this girl. They are not giving up, and neither did Melissa! Too many people are brutally attacked and murdered. Forever scared not just physically but mentally. It has a trickle affect. It affects the family, neighbors,friends, the community as a whole. A restraining order is worthless. If someone is crazy enough and determined enough. A piece of paper will not stop a bullet or a knife. These people should be monitered by a ankle bracelet. They should have to pay the cost for their own monitoring!  It should ensure that they do not get near the victim, their home, or workplace. This has got to stop sometime, and that sometime is now. If we can create all these other laws and taxes, this would be a fine example of a wonderful law that would help protect people. Thes victims always having to look over their shoulder. Fearing for their life. IT HAS TO STOP!  I would also like to take this national. It should be manditory EVERYWHERE! I draw the line with Melissa's attack. The waiting room was  filled with her family and friends! Out pouring of love! Several people are starting to put together fundraisers. They have made a facebook page. Going door to door spreading the word and seeking anykind of donations or just prayers. We are going to make petitions to pass out in the community as well.. We are not going to stop, we will not cease on this subject. Just like Melissa is fighting for her life, we are fighting alongside her,  for her rights and the rights and  lives of countless others who will be saved by this. Even if it is just one person. It will make all the difference. Bobby failed to kill Melissa.. We are lucky. These families are left to pay for medical expenses,therapies,surgeries and most cases funerals. For those who survive, we need to ensure that more is done to make positive they will NEVER be harmed again!  Theses attackers should never get out of prison. And if they do, these people should be monitored!  We  need to come together and support our neighbors, families, and friends. Help protect them. The next attack could very well be someone anyone of us knows. And the story might not end this way. Please help us get this going for Melissa! We would like to see people who are arrested for violent domestic/ attacks/stalkers who and/or get restraining orders against them monitored. (At the offenders cost.) These victims should have a warning system whether it be by text or an alert box that they are in danger and also monitered by police. They  DESERVE to have to protection, to have time to escape or prepare to defend themselves. THE VICTIMS DESERVE TO LIVE!  Thank you for your time. It is greatly appreciated.
