mirena IUD

Mirena Users Have a Right to Complete Information

Target:
US Food and Drug Administration
Sponsored by:

Women are reporting numerous, often debilitating healthcare problems after receiving the Mirena implant.  Most were totally unaware of these potential complications until after the Mirena was inserted and they became sick. Many others are suffering, and have no idea that Mirena is the cause.

Mirena is an IUD used to prevent pregnancy.  Its active ingredient is Levonorgestrel, a synthetic progestin (hormone).  Side effect to this hormone are numerous and well documented.

The manufactures of Mirena, Bayer Healthcare, includes most of these side effect only in the physician insert (many adverse reactions are yet to be reported even there).  The patient insert, however, contains only the most life threatening complications.  Physicians are not providing patients with this information and too often, women are told that there are no side effects.  Clearly, this is not the case.

The intention of this petition is to ensure all Mirena users, both potential and current, receive a full list of the adverse reactions associated with the use of Mirena.  Not only do they have a right to make informed choices about their birth control, but they also require this information, so that when side effects arise, they are able to be properly diagnosed.

We, the undersigned, respectfully request the U.S. Food and Drug administration do the following in regard to the Mirena IUD birth control:

1) Require the manufacturer of the Mirena UID, (Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals), to revise the patient information for this device to include all potential Mirena side effects currently listed only in the physician information portion of the label.

2) Require all medical practitioners inserting the Mirena to provide the patient with this information BEFORE the Mirena is inserted.

3) Require all medical practitioners to forward this updated information, along with an explanation of the changes, to all Patients for which they have prescribed/inserted the Mirena.

4) Recommend investigation into the additional temporary and long term side effects being reported (as outlined here) that are not currently mentioned in either the doctor or patient information for the Mirena device.

Many women are reporting numerous, often debilitating healthcare problems after receiving the Mirena implant.  Most are unaware of the potential for complications before the Mirena is inserted and have no idea that Mirena is the cause when they become sick.

The patient information for the device contains warnings for the following side effects ONLY:

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, infection, embedment, perforation, discomfort during placement, expulsion, missed menstrual periods, changes in bleeding, ovarian cysts.

This is the only "adverse reaction" information the patient will typically receive.

The following adverse reactions appear ONLY on the physician information for the Mirena (per the official physician information):

abdominal/pelvic pain, vaginal discharge, nausea, headache, nervousness, vulvovaginitis, dysmerorrhea (cramps), back pain, weight increase, breast pain/tenderness, acne, decreased libido, depressed mood, cervicitis (vaginal infection), hypertension, migraine, vomiting, anemia, dyspareunia (painful intercourse), alopecia (hair loss), eczema, pruritus (itchiness), rash, urticaria (hives), abdominal distension, altered mood, hirsutism (abnormal hair growth), edema (swelling).

Although doctors are instructed to share this information with the patient, they often do not.  In many cases, even when specifically asked, doctors are denying a possible link between Mirena and these symptoms. Patients are consistently told there are "no side effects," and that the synthetic hormone (levonorgestrel) contained in the mirena cannot be harmful because the hormone release is localized to the uterus.

The reluctance of doctors to acknowledge the many possible adverse reactions to the Mirena, including the ones documented by the manufacturer, suggests that they are alarmingly ill-informed or purposely obtuse--resulting in prolonged patient suffering and extensive medical expenses while seeking diagnosis/treatment of Mirena-related issues.

In addition, Mirena users are reporting additional common side effects that are not documented in any of the Mirena information provided by the manufacturer.

These include, but are not limited to:

anxiety, mental fog, double-vision, tinnitus, appetite increase, constipation, flatulence, polyuria (frequent urination),chest pain/heart palpitations, shortness of breath, bronchitis, fatigue/drowsiness, fainting, loss of nerve sensation/tingling in extremities, tremor, weight loss, insomnia,  cold intolerance, thyroid dysfunction, nonpuerperal lactation.

Patients have the right to make informed decisions regarding the use of the Mirena device. To do so, they are reliant on their doctors for full disclosure of potential risks/side effects as provided by the manufacturer.  Doctors are responsible for understanding these risks, and properly diagnosing and treating side effects when they occur.

Since patients are NOT currently receiving appropriate counseling regarding the Mirena device/Levonorgestrel, or treatment and diagnosis for the resultant adverse effects, we ask that the FDA consider the above changes to prevent further debilitation, suffering and expense on the part of women using this device.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

THANK YOU to all who have had taken the time to sign the Mirena Awareness Petition, and also to those that took the time to read these testaments.

It is our mission that the sometimes tragic, but always heartfelt, stories shared over the last year will have meaning to those who can make changes, those who (most of whom) have no idea of what these many families have gone through. Our petition will be sent to the appropriate authority at the FDA. Additionally, we will reach out to as many news agencies as possible to let others know of the testament signed here. We will get the word out, and without all of you it would not have been possible.

The most difficult part for us closing this petition is knowing that it will no longer be a resource for women with unanswered questions (or a place to speak out, or make a difference). However, our primary responsibility is to all of you, and to uphold the commitment we made to you, by getting this to the FDA. We will do our best to continue the collection of signatures through another venue.

For those of you looking to take further action, as expressed in many of your comments, it has come to our attention that an American law firm is looking to form a new class action lawsuit against Mirena/Bayer. However, it needs to be clear, the women of S.O.M.E. cannot endorse this or any other legal group. We do feel, however, that any attention to this may possibly be beneficial to many women throughout the world. If you are an American, and would like further information, you may visit the website of Brian T. Goldenfarb http://www.mirenalegalhelp.com/ and make your own decisions at that point.

Wishing all of you healing and happiness with deepest gratitude and appreciation. Thank you for your courage. Together, we will make a difference!

I have just gotten the mirena implant about a month ago, after having my first little girl. When I went to the doctor for my six week check up they told me of a few long term birth-controls. I have always been anemic and therefor could not receive the implant that lasted 10 years. Which, I was perfectly okay with considering I want another baby in at most five years. I am only twenty. At first the implant was going well, until I had my first period. I have been bleeding for more than ten days, I'm going on two and a half weeks. I wouldn't consider this normal. I am experiencing back pain, lower abdominal pain, headaches, an mild depression. I try not and complain but my husband has realized these symptoms as well, espically the bleeding. I only got this, because I'm bad at remembering to take a pill everyday, and it just seemed like it would fit my life style as a new mother the best. I am currently second guessing my decision. The doctor never explained the side affects properly and when I asked, he only told me that I might experience mild cramping and maybe weight gain due to the hormones. If I would have researched the side effects more carefully, I wouldn't have gotten the implant in the first place. I was just going on what the doctors told me, and they said it would be safe for me and my nursing daughter. I cannot afford to just get it taken out, and I'm currently unsure of what I should do. I don't want this to cause me to become infertial in the future, and I don't want it to cause any more health problems for me. I also don't want it to hurt my nursing daughter.

I have had the marina for 3 1/2 years since then I have gained over 30 pounds have very little energy depression and my husband complains of irritation during intercourse due to the strings which I was told would be like they weren't there. Not to mention migraines cramps and extremely irregular periods.

I have actually had the implant for 3 years. My relationship has fallen apart in these three years due to mood swings and my sex drive being gone. I was never informed of the possible side effects and am having it removed 02/17/2010. I wish they would have offered me the copper one in the first place!

I had the mirena placed 8 weeks after having my second child. When he was 7 months old I had to stop nursing and that is when I started to feel the effects of the mirena. Somehow nursing masked the effects or I didn't experience any until that hormonal shift. My estrogen, tested about a year after getting the mirena, and months after stopping nursing, was shown to be at menopausal levels. I experienced anxiety, numbness in my hands, muscle twitching, insomnia, dry mouth and eyes, blurred vision, exhaustion, muscle pain and mood swings. I am still experiencing many of these symptoms almost 7 months after having the mirena removed. I have always been a very healthy person, until this device was inserted. I only pray that I regain good health and the ability to get pregnant again if I so choose. My sister also had the mirena and after getting pregnant no problem with her first (before mirena), she experienced secondary infertility and three early miscarriages after having the mirena, I believe from an inability to produce adequate progesterone, caused by the mirena.

It would have been helpful to know that hair loss was a possible side effect of the Mirena. I may have opted for it still, but it sure would have given me pause. I hope that my hair will eventually grow back. It is sad that the company can't even be truthful about its own product.

I am so upset to see so many of us suffer from the Mirena. I want it to be taken off the market and for the doctor's to be aware of the side effects that it causes. I am also pissed to find out that it is made out of silicone and that is directly inserted into our uterus which goes into our blood stream! I did not sign up for 2 years of HELL! I would much rather be pregnant than go through that ever again! Once I had the EVIL mirena removed my symptoms disappeared and let me tell you that there were too many symptoms but the same as everyone else is reporting. Look up silicone and see the side effects from it and you will see why we were all suffering.

The Mirena has been a nightmare for me in many ways. I cannot wait to have it removed. I have experienced numerous negative side effects, including weekly "periods", painful cramping, nervousness, anxiety, depression, etc. I just want to feel normal again!

Women are experiencing severe side effects of this horrendous thing. I had it for 1 1/2 years it ruined my life and about ruined my marriage. I had it removed 16 months ago, but still suffer from certain side effects that may never get better. The doc that inserted this assured me there are no side effects that the hormone levels would not affect me and even though I constantly called the clinic and told them something was wrong, i was constantly told it was not the Mirena. I personally think this should be taken off the market, but women need to be made aware of the consequences.

I was not told of any side affects of the mirena when I went to see my doctor. I was given a pamphlet and told to let them know of my deccision. I would have liked to know everything before making a my deccision.

I had the Mirena put in Nov 09' after giving birth to my daughter. After the insertion which was painless I just had a feeling that something wasn't right. I was really moody, irregular spotting, severe cramping, losing handfuls of hair. I went to my Dr. to have it checked after 6 weeks and was told the placement and everything looked great. After explaining my symptoms, I was assured they were not related to the iud. Well 2 days ago (1/24/10) I started having the most severe migranes (granted I haven't had a migrane since I was 12. I'm now 22). I started having almost flu like symptoms: Migranes, dizzyness, cold sweats, fatigue, and body cramping. This morning I called my OBGYN and told them that I thought something wasn't right with my mirena. They told me it probably wasn't but I asked to be checked anyways. Turns out I had a SEVERE infection from my body trying to reject the Mirena. I had the Mirena taken out about 3 hours ago and no more migrane and flu like symptoms. When my OBGYN gave me the pamphlet on Mirena, no where in there booklet did it list any of the side effects I was having. After reading hundreds of other complaints, I am certain the Mirena was the cuase of all my problems. Women need to be informed of these side effects. With 3 children, these side effects make every day life so difficult. I hope this petition ends up making a difference!

I was not aware of all the side effects of this birth control before having it placed in. I read the pamphlet, it said nothing about hair loss. I have never had such a problem with yeast infections or ever had a bacterial vaginal infection until after I had Mirena inserted. I have had Mirena in for two years now and have had repeated yeast infections and yeast and vaginal bacteria infections combo. I have never experienced anything like this my entire life until Mirena. I talked to my doctor about it maybe relating and she said that there is nothing in their chart that says that it is related and recommended at home long term treatments in addition to immediate treatments but no matter what we do, the infections come back. The stress of this is enough to make me lose my hair, but I didn't realize that hair loss is one of the symptoms. I have had terrible mood swings, depression and anxiety as well not knowing that it is related to Mirena. This product should be taken off the market. After visiting online forums on this product I realized that I am not alone in this, there are many other women who have had repeated yeast infections and vaginal bacteria infections after having this product inserted. Those are side effects as well. I wonder why it isn't in the pamphlet.

This is so important to me because if I had known that these side effects could arise I would have been prepared to deal with them! Instead I suffered for a very long time not knowing what was wrong with me. Severe depression, anxiety, paranoia, extreme exhaustion, lots of physical pain and the list goes on and on!! Not only did I suffer but my husband, son and family did too! I strongly believe every women out there should know all the side effects even if less than 3% of woman get them. Those 3% have the right to know what is going on with there bodies instead of feeling like they have lost their minds!

The Mirena IUD has had a serious negative impact on the quality of my life. I now struggle with everyday tasks such as commuting and going to work, and am terrified what will happen if I lose my insurance. The fallout from Mirena has drained my bank account, and caused many severe symptoms that need constant attention and medication such as: Severe Dry Eye, joint pain, dizzyness and "Brain Fog", night sweats, depression, increased migraines, chronic bladder infections, recurrent yeast infections, anxiety, insomnia, heartburn and reflux, and IBS. Before Mirena I was a healthy and happy young woman in my mid-twenties with no serious medical conditions. I have had the Mirena removed for 7 months now and I am still facing problems that I hope will go away over time.

Because I have a 4 year old little boy that depends on me to wake up every morning. Some mornings I felt like I couldn't and even if I did I didn't have the strength to get through the day because of the dibilitating symptoms had I have known so many adverse side affects were listed there would be no way I would have had this birth control. They also need to list that there's a possible side affect of becoming premenopausal when on this birth control. After having something in for so long to do a hormones job there is no longer a news for your own body to make it's own hormones. When I think about it, it only makes perfect sense. I'm all fir this birth control being recalled and taken off the market!

I had the Mirena inserted in June 2008. Since then my body has gone biserck. Loss of hair, weight gain, swollen lymph nodes, nausea, etc. My immune system has weakened tremendously and I catch everything now. It has turned me into a hypochondriac. I no longer have insurance due to financial problems so I haven't been able to go have this thing removed. Had I know these complications I would definitely explored other birth control options.

I have had the IUD since July of 07, I was told No weight gain or serious side effects, I went from 148 to 193 lbs. At first i thought it was just from getting older but now i realize the IUD has not helped. I have had constant bleeding now for three months and sore joints. I have had many nasty side effects and when I went to my doc she acted like i was making it up! and wanted to test me for STDs, I have been with the same man for nine years and i KNOW that is not what my problems is, it is the birth control there all praising. I told her I want it out! she had to schedule a different day instead of taking a few moments while doing my pelvic exam to remove it. Im so displeased and will never advise anyone to get it!

The reason why I choose Mirena is because I was under the impression that it wouldn't make my hair fall out! I've been on other birth control and it made my hair fall out therefore when I was informed that this product didn't make your hair fall out, i was excited about receiving it. Also they lied about the insertion part not being painful, which was a huge lie! It was so painful that I almost pasted out from the pain of the procedure and I've been known to have a high pain tolerance. I think women should be informed about these 2 things!

I had the Mirena fitted just after giving Birth to my daughter who was born with special needs, 'the worst mistake of my life'. I never took a period the whole 2and half years of having it in, i had uncontrolled mood swings, severe depression and anxiety alongside chest pains and palpatations, given antidepressants and regular diazepam, gained 28lbs in weight, sinus congestion which i run to the hospital regularly with in the end they couldn't explain which i found out myself - THE MIRENA... After having it removed the anxiety levels increased for days after and suffered very bad nausea and migraines, feeling so tired and run down, not having the energy to do anything, the most horrible feeling out. The MIRENA should not be on the market, it needs to be taken of production as it can cause serious harm to peoples wellbeing and destroy your life. Thankfully my husband has been understanding but on a few occassions i felt like walking... Please be aware before taking this contraception.....Be Very Careful

I had Mirena for about a year. My husband and I thought it was the right thing to do since we were not sure if we were going to have more kids. About a year later I had sever bleeding. It was so severe I could not even leave my house for fear that I would have to go to the bathroom before I got anywhere. I was bleeding and clotting a great deal. It would last about 2 or 3 weeks and then stop for 2 weeks. I went into to see my GYN and they said they had to do a pelvic ultrasound and remove the Mirena. I really didn't care as long as the bleeding stopped. When they pulled the Mirena out the GYN actually pulled out tissue that was attached to it. They later said I had a fibroid and needed to have it resected. I have never had a fibroid in my life. Never bled like I did or even have remotely heavy periods before this. So after having it resected about 3 and 1/2 months later the bleeding started again. Ultimately it ended in me having my uterus taken out. At the age of 26 I was bleeding so much that I almost bled to death and I had to have 3 blood transfusions before I could even have surgery to remove my uterus. It was remove my uterus or bleed out. So I did what I had to. However, I can never have my own children again. I will never get that back.

it is incredibly importnat that women out here know fully what the side effects could be with the mirena. My doctor had nothing but praise for this form of contraception. The back pain, hair loss, severe depression and many other side effects can be life altering if you don't connect the dot's and realize that the mirena is the culprit in all of these side effects. Hopefully the manufacturer of this drug will disclose fully all of the adverse side effects that are real for so many unsuspecting women.

Mirena is absolutely the worst thing that ever happened to me. Before Mirena I had the thickest hair of anyone I knew. It was so thick. My hair dresser estimates I've lost over half of it. The makers of Mirena deserve to be sued by every woman going thru this. I hate the day I ever had the thing put in. They should be ashamed.

I had my Mirena IUD inserted on June 21, 2009. I had just had my baby boy six weeks before and as of right now don't ever want another child...but I'm only 24, so I didn't want to go so far as having my tubes tied....who knows how I'll feel in five or six years. So the Mirena seemed perfect for me. The insertion was almost painless for me (despite all the horror stories I had heard). I had mild cramping for a little while but that was about it. I did bleed continuously for about a month afterwards though...that sucked. But other than that, everything was fine. For the first few months the only side effects I had were the bloated belly and two week long periods each month. They both bothered me, but I figured they werent horrible....so I'd keep it in and give my body time to adjust and just pray that they would go away with time. Well, the past three months have been absolute hell for me. I thought I was going crazy. I became extremely depressed, moody, irritable and anxious. I was constantly angry and snapping at everyone over everything. Everything in the world annoyed me, and everyone noticed...my relationship with my boyfriend (my son's father) was quickly falling apart. All I wanted to do was be alone...away from everyone, even my child! I started having anxiety attacks from simple everyday things like riding in a car. I had never had anxiety or depression problems before, but once they started they just got worse. Not to mention I had horrible insomnia, was constantly tired, and completely unmotivated to do anything. I felt like my life was falling apart. I figured it was just me, that I was just destined to have these problems and I would just have to figure out a way to get insurance so I could see a doctor and get put on anxiety meds and anti-depressants. (I had free government issued insurance while I was pregnant, but it was taken away after my six week postpartum appt.) To top it all off, I couldn't lose my pregnancy weight. I became obsessed with dieting and exercising...my weight was just making my depression worse, because I am only 5 feet tall, and have always been very small. I couldn't hardly gain weight if I tried. So not being able to lose it was sooo frustrating for me...just another thing on the list of things wrong with my life. I also had the constantly bloated belly...no matter how many ab exercises I did, I looked like I was 5 months pregnant again! I felt crazy, completely out of control. But then...I found this website. I felt compelled to tell my story because I feel like reading only one pages of these posts changed my life. Everything everyone was talking about, every symptom everyone was listing...it was me! All of it! It was like a slap in the face...I completely woke up out of my angry, depressed haze to realize that I wasn't nuts, that I had some kind of monster inside me making me crazy. I started to feel relieved just knowing how simple it would be to fix all of my problems. I called my obgyn today and made an appt. for Feb 2, 2010 to get this horrible thing taken out. I am insuranceless, and I don't know if my doctor had compassion for me or what, but after talking to his assistant and the assistant discussing it with him he offered me a discounted fee of $100 to come in and get it taken out. I feel free already just knowing that in a couple of weeks I will be able to return to my old self again. I am counting down the days, and Feb 2 can't come soon enough! The Mirena is so convenient, and felt like a godsend...but I am willing to trade convenience for my mental health any day.

I had Mirena three months after the birth of my second kid. I noticed that I started to lose a lot of hair. Other people told me that losing hair was a normal thing after had kid, so I didn't think much of it. Three months later, my hair dresser found a quarter size of bald spot when she was cutting my hair. Another three months later, it became about fifty cent size of bald spot. I started to search online about it. After I read other women's stories about mirena and hair lose, it makes perfect sense now. I never had hair problem like this until after I got Mirena. I'm going to get Mirena removed as soon as possible. I hope the hair lose will stop/slower down after than. I wish the drug company would provide possible hair lose as side effects. Then I would realize the problem earlier, so it wouldn't get this bad.

i have had the mirena since feb 2009, and the first three months i just delt with the side effects because they said that they were normal in that time period, but i still get really bad headaches, just out of nowhere, i could be having a good time with my children or friends and boom all of a sudden my head is just throbbing and i feel like i cant function, i will suddenly get really tired after that. i weigh 123 i am 5' 2, im not heavy, but i am a bartender, so i stand on my feet all day, about 6 months ago i started getting this really bad leg cramp in the same spot, i would even wake up in the middle of the night because it was just hurting soo bad (it wasnt a charlie horse) then after a few weeks i notice that in that same spot, i could see that i had varicose veins, and their still there, every once in awhile it still hurts. and another thing that i really dont like it!!! and of course when i call the doctor and talk to someone about it they always point it towards something else in your life. i am 24 years old, it should not be bothering me to stand on my feet all day, and i dont have any major stress for the cause of my headaches.

At first, I thought Mirena was great. However, I have experienced constant bacterial infections, severe migraines, dizzy spells, neck and back pain, nausea, severe anger and mood swings, and depleted milk supply. None of these were present in any regular format before I had Mirena inserted. I wouldn't have known any of this, but typed symptoms into a Google search and all these links to S.O.M.E sites popped up. I'm having mine removed. This is scary stuff.

I am laying in bed typing this as I could not go to college due to severe abdominal and lower back pain! I have had a Mirena fitted a year ago and my health has deteriated badly. I have been back and forth to my doctor with lots of health issues I now see as being side effects of this IUD. I am a single mum of three Autistic boys and have not been able to give them the care they needed, instead they have cared for me. This IUD needs more investigation as to whether it is safe to be used. Had I know all of the possible side effects, I could have been saved from all the health issues I have suffered. I read the small leaflet and I did the research but found only praise for it. One year on and I am now booked in for it's removal. I am so concerned now with my health after the removal and any lasting effects, I also can't wait to get active again and lose the pounds that I have piled on, the pain and bloating has left me unable to do the most basic jobs that most people take for granted. Please get the Mirena taken off the market and investigate the other side effects that are not stated in the information given to patients.

My symptoms include: instant weight gain/bloat, sinus congestion, acne, tingling/numbness in left hand, cold sores, thinning hair line, nipple discharge. Writting this makes me realize I need to get it out! My Dr. thinks I'm nuts...she thinks the IUD is great. Frustrating!

Because i was told by my ob that Mirena didn't cause weight gain that it was in my head and before i had it put in i was 136lbs a big weight gain enough from having my son but after i had it put in i gained alot of weight. I am now 160lbs the heaviest i have ever been in my life and i do not like to look in the mirror and am very depressed about this weight gain. And i have also had other side effects like bad headaches, nausea, acne, water retention, sleepiness all the time, and not being able to sleep and horrible pains in my chest. Since i have had it removed i feel so much better and i can't wait til i'm back to my old self again completely.

It took a year and a half for the side effects to hit, but when they did, it was devastating to me and my family. It took 6 months, 7 doctors, 3 ER trips (two by ambulance) for me to find out via the internet blogs to figure out what was wrong. I'm now left with thousands of dollars in medical bills and collection debts because of this. All of it could have been avoided or caught early. I'm now trying my best to get the word out about this. I've recently found someone I know that is currently experiencing all the same things I did, fortunately for her, I went through all this and can help her take care of it sooner. Hopefully more people learn the truth about the MIRENA and don't have to go through what I did. The countless times I honestly thought I was going to die and no one knew what was going on.

My hair just started falling out and I started getting really depressed. In addition to that I started getting boils between my butt crack and between my vagina and thigh. I thought it was just an allergic reaction to the new detergent that I had been using but it seems all too coincidental.

WOW! I was doing a search unrelated to Mirena side effects and hair loss and came across this website. It's finally all making sense! I could not figure out why I was losing so much hair all of the sudden. I thought it was post baby hormones. But I was also experiencing what I would call menopause symptoms (i.e. "change of life) and was becoming worried that I was going through peri menopause. I have an appt with my doc on Friday to see if it's inserted properly (had it in for 3 months now, but all of the sudden hubby is feeling something). I may see about alternative birth control.

I had the Mirena coil inserted in Dec 2003, 6 months after the birth of my baby. I was still breast feeding. When my hair first started falling out I thought it was the post-partum/hormones returning to normal, shedding and that the breast feeding had delayed the process. My hair continued to fall out until I had absolutely none left at all. It started with diffuse hair loss throughout 2004/2005, with big bald patches appearing by Jan 2006 and continued until I had lost everything eyelashes, brows and all body hair by end of 2006/start of 2007. Alopecia Universalis. Did not have Mirena removed until the beginning of 2009 as I had to wait to have it surgically removed along with a Hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic - It had become embedded. I was only told that the Mirena could be linked to my hairloss in October 2008 when I wanted to have it removed as the 5 years were almost up. Still have no hair at all and probably never will as a result. The prognosis for any regrowth is not good. What a nightmare !!! I was never informed of such side effects and doctors and consultants never made the connection until October 2008.
