Hello, We, the GLBT community in NYC, are writing to complain about the Soul Saving Station at 42nd St (near the 7 train). Many of us had to listen to the Soul Saving Station preachers express strong anti-gay viewpoints that are bigoted as well as potentially disturbing or psychologically harmful to children (many of us have families). If these preachers were saying that God also sends Jews, Moslems, women, specific racial groups, etc to hell, I am sure the MTA would issue warnings or even revoke their permits.
I would like assurance from the MTA that any proselytizing activity officially permitted within its bounds is enacted in a manner that respects all people's civil rights. I accept their right to preach, but not their right to traumatize and insult GLBT's and their families. I also request to be informed of any action steps taken toward the 42nd Street Soul Saving Preachers, and to request that MTA-wide civil rights legislation be enacted to assure a safe and hate-free ride for all. These people are not concerned with saving "souls". These fundamentalists exploit the weakend persons on the street to substantiate their cause. And their cause is typically to manipulate the minds of those who are not obviously being heard by their Gods to begin with. These people are as annoying as a bunch of thugs looking to rob people of their money. This fantasy that someone up in the sky is going to save all of us from the mess we have created on the Universe is nothing less than ignorance.
The only entity that can save you is yourself.

These groups in the name of religion become religious terrorists and that and hate crimes are forbade. You say there is no crime...yet verbal assaults do affect millions of people that have to hear their rants and raves in the name of religion. People should be free of verbal harassment. They should be moved from an enclosed area where people are subject to having to walk past them to exit the station.
