Much More Science in the ABC Evening News!

One mark of the progress of civilisation is that today across the world more people than ever before have had at least some education in the sciences. In the West we live in a society founded in scientific enlightenment, our economic well-being and future largely dependent upon the application of science and technology.

Is cutting edge scientific research today as newsworthy as sport and politics? One thing our children possibly learn from watching the evening news is that Australians seem to be quite interested in sports, much less interested in the sciences. But is it really still true, does it accurately reflect the ABC viewing audience's desire for "much more"sport, or is it becoming something of an anachronism?

We the undersigned would like to see on our ABC, each evening, more news of the scientific research that is really affecting our futures!
Dear Management of our ABC,
We're almost ten years into the third millennium CE and we the undersigned would like to hear and see more current news of science on our ABC, please! We'd like a few minutes devoted to news of science in the evening news bulletin, but the ideal might be a fifteen minute daily program of science news somewhere in the 7.00 - 9.30pm time slot.

We think we're ready for it, even if it would mean having to forego a few minutes daily of the ABC's comprehensive coverage of sport. There'd still be plenty of time left for the sports that entertain us, while more science news could entertain, educate & inspire.

We live in a society founded upon scientific enlightenment, our economic well-being and future largely dependent upon the application of science and technology, so we'd like to hear more news from the cutting edge of science that is really affecting our futures.

The ABC already delivers quality science programming ....  we're sure that regular daily science news can be made to entertain, enrich and hook even those at the non-nerd end of the spectrum!

We think it's a good time for the ABC to again be setting a trend.
We'd like more news from the sciences please.
