Petition:  Canada's NEW National Park

August 02 , 2011

Office of the Prime Minister
Ottawa  ON

Dear Prime Minister Harper:

Last June 2011, Mr Harper during your throne speech to Parliament,  you made an outstanding announcement to all Canadians, your government is committed to create in the backyard of the largest Cosmopolitan City of Canada, the newest urban National Park;  "Rouge Valley".

The Rouge Valley, total area of 11,500 acres of Canada's  unique Carolinian forestland teeming with vulnerable wildlife on the eastern edge of Toronto, of importance and equal relevance the area consists of a mix of river valley, creeks, forests, meadow and rural landscapes within the Rouge River, Petticoat Creek and Duffins Creek watersheds in the Greenbelt. It represents Canada's largest natural environment park in an urban setting.

Sitting between the borders of Durham Region and Scarborough and among the newly protected areas another tourist attraction of great importance could become part of the Park. The Toronto Zoo could potentially become Canada's newest National Zoo should it become part of the "Rouge Valley National Park".

Mr Harper, the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Toronto Zoo has expressed via deputations to the Toronto Zoo Board of Management  the benefits and opportunities  should  the Toronto Zoo choose to become part of the National Park.

Mr Harper, without any doubt, going  even further, once The Zoo  is part of the National Park ,  it could reach another newer  level and become:  Canada's Newest National ZOO.

Mr Harper, currently the Toronto Zoo  is suffering from financial and fund raising problems, and serious operational budget  instability, among them the latest report from K.M.P.G advise to the City of Toronto "Core Service Review" to sell off the Toronto Zoo.

In view of the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada, Mr Harper here is a unique opportunity to save the Toronto ZOO and with your help it could  become part of the "Rouge Valley National Park".

Mr Harper, we trust your government will be working hard to achieve this long dream for Canadians, The Citizens Advisory Committee for the Toronto Zoo is in support of this incredible adventure.

Sincerely Yours,

Miguel Avila
