New Feedback Policy UNFAIR for sellers

Target:
ebay
Sponsored by:
Feedback is a two way street.

Keep the old system... allowing buyers to only receive POSITIVE and not negative feedback does NOTHING to protect sellers.

That is nice that you threw in the expanded 'blocked bidder list'... seriously, without a fair feedback system in place HOW do you know WHO to block?

I for one closed my ebay store today... if you are going to charge as much as you do in fees you should have something in place to protect the people who keep your business going... SELLERS

eBay said they made the new feedback changes because when a seller left a buyer negative feedback, that buyer's purchasing activity decreased, therefore harming other sellers. A buyer left me a negative feedback. He did not contact me first to give me the chance to honor my return policy. After that I didn't feel like spending my time or money on eBay for awhile. MY activity as a BUYER decreased because of the negative from a buyer. Did this harm other sellers? Yes, because I didn't purchase any items I was interested in during that time! I've had more problems than ever before as a seller: slow-pay buyers, very slow-pay buyers, lots of UPI's, demands for refunds on items as described, and the list goes on & on. I liked selling on eBay 9 months ago when I started. Now, it's stressful, unenjoyable & becoming not worth the hassle, since as a seller, I'm left at the mercy of the buyer with very little, if any protection as a seller. If I come to the point of closing my eBay store, I WILL NOT buy on eBay anymore either. New feedback changes = bad business for eBay. They just don't see it or feel it.......yet.

If your sellers (the ones that make you money) are not protected too you're business will be going down the tube fast. Business is a two way street - come up with a different solution FAST - because this one is not going to work.

I only have a rating of 176 and recently started selling more items... since the change of the feedback system i have had 3 buyers purchase something and take up to 3 weeks to pay!!!! and i have to leave positive feedback for them? i had another buyer who wouldnt respond to any emails or messages... so i HAVE to leave positive feedback for them?? whats the point of even giving us an option... might as well add a feedback point automatically every time someone hits the "COMMIT TO BUY" button!! this is totally absurd!! we cannot protect ourselves. NOT FAIR!! the buyer can protect themselves and we cant! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This is a completely unfair policy. I filed an unpaid item claim and only then did I get a one sentence response from the Buyer, then closed as Buyer did not want item. This UN-Buyer was allowed to leave negative feedback for me and ebay will not remove it! THEY ARE NOT A BUYER IF THEY DIDN'T BUY ANYTHING!!!! THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I am a buyer and have been stung by a corrupt seller with bad feedback, but, all sellers and buyers should have equal rights. The sellers should have the same protection as the buyers.

I am basically a buyer and STRONGLY DISAGREE with the new feedback procedures. Give the sellers equal rights, and Ebay mediate disagreements.

Ebay's "improvements" are usually a step backwards. Every time they get a new CEO, policies get changed.

This new feedback policy is outlandish. I am about done with selling on ebay, as it has become too much trouble with all these irresponsible buyers!
# 3,162:
6:56 pm PDT, Jul 28, Brian Yourdan, Idaho
I agree with most the comments left. The new feedback system is insane, totally biased towards the buyer. The most insane part of it all is the removal of the "mutual feedback withdrawl". Ebay, please explain that one to me.
# 3,161:
10:34 am PDT, Jul 28, Dave Brackett, California
The balance is tilted to buyers when a seller has zero recourse or protection. Sellers are your customers too!
# 3,160:
1:37 pm PDT, Jul 27, Jennifer McCall, North Carolina
The new feedback system is unfair the the sellers. I am tired of loosing money on false claims just to protect myself from negative feedback!!! I am an "A1" seller and eBay needs to realize that not all sellers are dishonest like some. I do not know what the solution is but it is unfair to tie the sellers hands and for buyers to be able to make false claims and threaten SELLERS with negative feedback knowing they have us over the barrel!!!!! eBay needs to realize that without SELLERS there will be no buyers and NO revenue in their pockets. I am looking forward to the day that another online auction site comes up to compete with eBay. Again... I am sure I am not alone when I say and I repeat.. eBay needs to realize that without SELLERS there will be no buyers!!!

Dedicated people in the Ebay community t are furious about this unfair feedback change, a slap in the face to sellers that operate with integrity and designed to cut sellers off at the knees. It doesn't serve the overall good of honest participants in the Ebay community, sellers as well as buyers!

Hi, My account has been restricted for not meeting new Ebay feedback requirements. I'm a small seller and my feedback volume is not very big, but it's good if you look at the quality of the positive comments. I think Ebay has become incredibly demanding with sellers with all these new rules. I think a lot of sellers will have to stop selling because of this policies. Why did they take out the mutual withdrawal option?? Can anyone explain me that? I had this italian buyer that put me a negative feedback without even talking to me first. One week later we could perfectly solve the situation, but the negative feedback was still there. My account has been restricted because of this feedback and another neutral feedback i received. I think this is not fair at all. I think Ebay will have to revise immediately this new policy, cause it will surely affect thousands of honest sellers like me. Thank you from Argentina, Tango-Goods

these feedback changes only create more imbalance. it was already tilted towards the buyer and non-paying bidders. it will be even more so now. this statement from ebay is mind boggling: "We believe that we will reduce any imbalance in the Feedback system with these changes. Buyers will be able to more accurately assess sellers and sellers will be protected from buyers who violate our policies without risking a cut in good buyer activity." ebay also says: "sellers will be protected from buyers." that is something that has never been true and even less so now.
# 3,153:

Although I understand changes were needed, the ones that have been made are NOT WORKING. Somebody who receives FREE SHIPPING is still allowed to post stars on the dsr ratings, WRONG>>> Buyers are now using this new feedback system to extort sellers, and yet there is nothing ebay will do about it. If you sell 2 items and receive a 4 star rating on one and a 5 star rating on the other you now have a 4.5 average dsr rating. So basically doing everything right and being a good seller now means you basically suck.

Lately, I hear the twilight zone tune when I sign in on EBay or PayPal. EBay started acting strangely…By introducing the new feedback policy, it became clear that I was no longer an independent business owner but a subordinate with 3 controlling bosses…The ruthless ‘buyer’ who can now get away with everything, ‘PayPal’ who can hold my money depending on my feedback... and of course my master ‘EBay’ who tells me how to run my business… What happened to the on-line market place, where buyers and sellers could meet…What happened to a balanced feedback system, where both sides of the ‘transaction’ story were taking into account…What happened to our ‘real’ seller status as ‘customer’ of EBay and PayPal, which seemed to have changed into employee. Should we not be paid for following their orders, instead of having to pay them for a poor service? What happened to common sense, where ‘neutral’ really means neutral instead of ‘negative’, only in EBay’s world...? There was a time that I was excited…looking forward to buy or sell on EBay… I don’t blame the buyers…I will always go the extra mile for my customers on Ebay or elsewhere... No I blame EBay and PayPal taking away our dignity, independency and joy in selling…and I also blame myself for accepting this treatment…So if, coming 3 months, EBay doesn’t snap out of this wicked upside down backwards state, I will spend my hard earned money elsewhere.

I suggest no negative feedback can be automatically placed. It has to go through an approval process. For example, if someone purchased something from ebay and it took 3 weeks to arrive because they mailed a check, then the postal service (for reasons unknown to us) took it's time shipping. If the buyer now leaves negative feedback as "super slow shipping, took 3 weeks to arrive" the negative feedback goes to an ebay rep who will look at the neg feedback and maybe ask the seller what happened etc, before allowing the negative feedback to be placed. In this case, the negative feedback would NOT be placed.

E-bays High Fees and their Feedback System really it is a big loss for Sellers I'm going to be leaving soon ,will find a another Auction site to deal with ,E-bay will lose thousands of Sellers ,because of the change's in FB System and Higher Fee's. as soon as my Stuff Sells I'm out of here ,as of right Now I have a Bidder that Bid and has not paid ,and I have been on E-bay since 2001 ,E-bay will end up killing their whole System, themselves one thing if ALL Sellers should stop selling for awhile ,then and only then will E-bay wake up and see the Reality of what they have done ,a good System gone BAD because of Greed,REMEMBER E-BAY Sellers will basely STOP SELLING and GO ELSEWERE.and with E-bays new policys it could crumble,so listen to all of what has been written here by Sllers and Buyers and do something about it Now.

All the comments I have read on this petition are correct. Ebay and Paypal's seller fees are rising and the sellers are receiving less and less for those fees. The inability to leave negative feedback for a deadbeat buyer or a troublemaker buyer is the final insult. I really need the extra money my sales on ebay provide however 1 unfair negative has put me to the point where I am not selling much anyway. Ebay needs to remember their roots and get back to what ebay was originally intended. The everymans ability to sell items to others at a fair price and a fair system to do that. Ebay has forgotten who made them the company that they are now.

This new system is one sided and needs to be changed by Ebay ASAP! I to have received my first negitive feedback from a ebay customer and was not allowed to tell my side of the story via feedback. No system works when it is one sided. As the prior post says, this system is more broken than ever!
# 3,142:

Buyers are able to scam sellers now and sellers can't ever warn each other. Shady Buyers are free to make unfair demands on sellers and threaten them with negative feedback. E-bay, it would be wise to provide protection for your devoted sellers. This system is more broken than ever.

That's absolutely right, who ever thought up this foolish policywasn't thinking, but for ebay to implement such a useless and thoughtless stratergy is idiotic. The only assumption is that ebay has more buyers than sellers, but the fees for the most part come from sellers- as long as products are offered there will be buyers, so isn't it the sellers you want to treat fairly. Who wants to sell and item out of fear to an unreasonable buyer. I bet the amount of blocked bidders has had a supersonic rise. Buyers are the biggest rip-offs out there for the most part, most sellers already offer deals and have always had to worry about the feedback, what use is it to let the buyers walk all over your sellers. If ebay took the time to consider what they are doing- they would see, what a B.S move this was. Buyers will always complain, as sellers we just move on. We didn't complain enough.

I have over 2500 positive feedbacks and in the last week have received 2 negatives - for something that wasn't my fault. One buyer emailed and said - oops, wrong feedback for you, was meant for another seller! And nothing can be done about this - I contacted ebay. Now my score is ruined and sales have all but stopped. I am currently shopping other sites and avenues to sell. I'm done with ebay and so are many of my friends and family members. Maybe ebay will get the point once there are no sellers left!!!!!!!!

I sold 1 item and I have been on since 2002. I just had a (new ebayer)buyer contact me and demand their money back and say that AFTER they recieved a refund they would mail my item back. Sounds like a scam and was very very nasty in the emails. Then leaves me neg feedback saying they were not refunded...I cann't refund with out the item who knows if i would even get it back or be the same item! Now I cann't leave a neg and they are free to pull crap on other sellers i will not give them feedback becuase my only option is a positive! So other buyers will be clueless to this scam.

I agree ebay needs to change their feedback system, and also this supposed Buyer protection plan that allows Pay-Pal to keep your money for 21 days if you do not receive a feedback for an item. This whole new service stinks. I heard customer satisfaction on ebay is dwindling, but it will become even worse when the only seller left on ebay are the cons themselves.

I have stopped selling after being a seller on ebay since 1999. The one sided feedback is enough to run me off. 100% is where I stand right now. No plan to return until it is overturned. Just not worth the headache with all the high fee's eating away at the profit already.

After reading about the new policy changes to the Feedback system I am very hesitant to list my crafts for sale on eBay. How will I know who is the "Dead beat buyer" It's just not fair to anyone. eBay is slowly killing the small people. Have they forgotten they were small at one time? It is us the little people who made them filthy rich. All they care about the power sellers ..... Good luck eBay because you won't have my support!

Ebay is making so much money off of me, yet I feel they DO NOT have my back!! Why is it that Buyers can leave negative feedback and Sellers can't??? I have been nearly doing this a year come August, and if something doesn't change, I will be closing down also....WAKE UP EBAY!!!

Buyers can now abuse their new power. Before the policy change I had 100% feedback now it's down to 97%. And it's all from buyers who just left negative feedback without even emailing me about the problem. I could have refunded the item in full but now I have to suffer the consequences.
# 3,130:
8:39 am PDT, Jul 15, Name not displayed, Arizona
Since the new feedback went into effect I have had a 500% increase in Non Paying Bidders. In April 08 I had 1 deadbeat bidder, May 08 I had 1 deadbeat bidder IN JUNE 08 I had 13 DEADBEAT bidders and July 08 has already 6 deadbeats and we are only half way through this month. BIDDERS no longer take paying the seller seriously! And I have to pay relisting fee's to boot! I don't know who to trust that will keep their commitment to pay and who is a deadbeat buyer. This is costing me money and for no reason, all I get is my time wasted sending out email almost begging buyers to pay. Time in relisting. I feel its getting better to go to another auction site or even a flea market at this point!
# 3,129:
9:58 pm PDT, Jul 14, BC Dale, California
I find it rediculous that we sellers can no longer leave negative feedback. I always look at a buyer's feedback before considering "best offers" or "pay by check/money order". This is our way, the sellers', to let our fellow merchants know the type of customer with whom one may be dealing. Furthermore, not allowing changes to the feedback is just rediculous. Many a buyer is hot to jump the gun and leave feedback, often for things out of the sellers' control. Once it is there, it is always there. Then, to make matters worse, that feedback affects my fees, my listings' placements, and powerseller status. eBay is getting worse and worse while their fees grow more and more. WAKE UP eBAY!
# 3,128:
7:22 pm PDT, Jul 14, Clint McDaniel, Missouri
Not only can sellers not leave negative feedback, but buyers can't change their feedback even if they want to. A buyer left negative feedback because he thought I was ignoring his emails. After I could access the internet again , I gave the buyer a full refund immediately. He emailed eBay and eBay said he couldn't change his negative feedback -- he wanted to leave positive feedback because I took good care of him. My feedback went from 100% to 75%. Ebay's new policy does not make any sense. It needs to be changed immediately.
# 3,127:

Non-paying bidders cost me money. 7 days to wait before I can file dispute, then 8 more days to wait before able to re-list, meanwhile the fees have already been charged to me, and storing the unsold items cost me more money. I WANT TO BE WARNED ABOUT THESE TYPES OF BUYERS IN THEIR FEEDBACK PROFILE. Also, they can leave negative feedback if my shipping & HANDLING charges are higher than what they think they should be? There are costs associated with S & H that the buyer is not aware of. How about changing the way items are listed so that winning buyers can see the sellers ebay fees seperately like they can see S&H seperately. Then they might have a better idea of how much it costs the seller to sell on ebay. And on top of that, PayPal can now hold my money up to 21 days if I get negative feedback, even if it is just because the buyer doesn't like how much I charge for S&H ? How do I pay for the shipping if I can't get the money from PapPal? My profits are shrinking and eBay is no longer worth my time. I would make more money with less effort by holding a garage sale!

RE: The policy change that doesn't allow sellers to leave negatives...IMHO this is by far the biggest mistake I have seen eBay make. EBay has crossed the tipping point for a seller to feel the system is fair or safe with there latest policy changes by removing the ability for the seller to leave open honest communication about a buyer. After 7 years of selling a quality product at a very low margin I think maybe its time to quit. I just printed off the founders statement by founder Pierre Omidyarhas for my scrap book as I don't see how eBay can leave it up and say that this new policy in any way remotely supports these chartering words that I have held near and dear to my heart for the last 8 years. Pierre, your children have lost there way, you did not teach them well enough the importance of your governing values. They just don't seem to grasp the concept and our effectively cracking the foundation of your once beautiful internet castle. Yours words: "Now, we have an open forum." ARE NO LONGER TRUE. Your instructions: "Give praise where it is due; make complaints where appropriate. " CAN NO LONGER BE FOLLOWED BY ALL PARTIES INVOLVED IN A EBAY FACILITATED TRANSACTION. The KEYSTONE of integrity and trust has been sophomorically stripped from your web site

I just sold my first item -- buyer is not paying -- has ALL the control and nothing to lose. This will probably be the LAST thing I sell on eBay -- not interested in the headaches of dealing with the process of disputing the payment. This only gives buyers more power to demand their own terms and change their minds with no recourse from sellers. How do we know who to block and list as an unwanted bidder if they don't have any feedback from other sellers? I know the new system was put in place with good intentions, but it isn't working.

No more. It's just not fun anymore. I have always been an honest seller, but I will not cater to the most unfair and most unreasonable buyers, nor scammers or con artists. Not even a major department store would do that. I will boycott eBay till they reverse this terrible feedback system.

I got my first neg. This morning from a buyer and it is very upseting that I couldn't do anything about it. I admit I did get acouple negs. but that was in the past. This new one was from someone that took out insurance but then didn't use it and wanted me to take care of it all. I didn't even know for sure if the idem really was damaged or not. I have sold on ebay for 10 years with 100% positive feedback. The new feedback policy is a nightmare. Buyers see themselves in charge of my business now. I plan to stop selling on ebay at the end of the month. Between my Paypal and Ebay fees the loss to them will only be $5.000. annually but multiply that by the thousands of unhappy sellers who are being forced out. If this policy does not change I think ebay will go under.

HELLO ALL yes this feedback system sucks and I hope they ether start a better site or fix this one. I have been selling for 2 years, I was a proud power seller and now they buyers are ruthless. I get a complaints stating item not working I tested all my items before I sell them and despite the lie I refunded the money and the jacka@@ still left me a negative and I let him keep the item!!!! EBay help me with nothing I got negatives from a woman who got her item 35 days after she told me it was great. she said broken when received and wonted refund I clearly right in listing no insurance not my problem if broken I wrap every thing very well and put them in over sized boxes no way got broken on way out try to switch much so if you do sell on line eBay won’t to give her money back I mean what the hell I am pulling both of my accounts use to be fun I mad a small amount of money use to sell for some one I got 30% and I have to pay for fees out of that and they go up than pull the buyers is always right come on man get out of here what I did was cut and pasted this on all of my listings so if you still are going to sell post this in your listing and more people will come to realize the trouble we are having buyers agree with this site also thanks for reading good luck to all and if any one finds a good auction site like eBay use to be please tell every one so we all can teach eBay a lesson as they showed us they don’t care if they have sellers http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/new-feedback-policy-unfair-for-sellers Post this on all your ebay listings thanks matt

I BUY AND SELL ON EBAY AND FEEL THIS IS SO UNFAIR. BUYERS NOW HAVE THE UPPER HAND TO USE THIS AGAINST SELLERS. THEY PAY WHEN THEY WANT TO AND SEND NASTY EMAILS AND THERE IS NOTHING WE AS SELLERS CAN DO ABOUT IT. I WILL NOT BE SELLING ANYMORE AFTER RECENT DEALINGS WITH BUYERS SINCE THE NEW POLICY. HOW CAN SELLERS WARN OTHERS ABOUT PROBLEM BUYERS? EBAY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT BUYERS WHO LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FOR NO REASON. THEY RECEIVED THERE ITEM IN THE CONDITION LISTED AND THEN LEAVE NEGATIVE OR NEUTRAL JUST BECAUSE.

No more ebay for me! I am done, unless they change this ridiculous policy. When I signed up for ebay amost 5 years ago, I did not agree to not be able to leave negative or neutral feedback on a nightmare transaction, and they have no right to do this to their seller! It is us who pay them all their outrageous fees, not the buyers!

The new system is so unbalanced it is totally not fair to the seller. We should either go back to the old system or make a resolution system. Make the buyer actually contact the seller and discuss the issue prior to being allowed to leave negative. They talked about this but it carry's no real weight. There will always be issues with dealing with retail customers but I feel the real outstanding sellers are the ones who can step up and take care of customer issues.

This new policy needs revisiting by administration. I've received by first neutral feedback after 10+ years selling on eBay. What a bummer! I'm looking at other selling options.

If you want to make the feedback system balanced then make it reciprocal. Limit the 2nd party to leave feedback to the lowest rating left by the first to leave feedback.
