No La Entrada through the Big Bend

No La Entrada through the Big Bend

Target:
All Texas State Representatives
Sponsored by:

The Midland-Odessa Transportation Alliance (MOTRAN) and other corporate interests are pushing for a trade route from Mexico that, if approved, could bring hundreds of 18-wheeler diesel trucks through the main street areas of Alpine and Marfa and the heart of the Big Bend each day. This will be detrimental to the quality of life in the BIG BEND and to tourism. We would see a sharp increase in noise, congestion and pollution, to say nothing about the safety of town folks and tourists on our scenic roadways. Don't let your voice go up in diesel smoke. Please sign this petition and voice your opposition to this ludicrous waste of tax-payers' money.

No trade routes through the pristine Trans-Pecos from Mexico into Texas. We Texans who value our state's natural beauty are very much against increases in 18-wheeler trucks passing through the Big Bend and the towns of Alpine, Marfa, Presidio, Marathon, and others.

What is going to be left of our natural parks and environment if you build this roadway? What benefit (other than money) is to be made by desecrating such a wonderful place in Texas? Is there nothing sacred anymore? Or nothing the greedy and "powerful" won't do? Apparently not.

I sign this as a stand against unconscience "free-trade" greed mongers who are seeking to sell out America one piece at a time, carving up our country with "corridors" and serving up our land as sacrifice for the fast track.

I oppose this trade route for multiple reasons. So much of the State of Texas has already been torn up by this type of traffic that it goes against my Texas roots to interrupt such a tourism area.Congress has not followed through with safe Mexican truck issues on USA roads ;Gov.Perry is still under fire for TTC issues that hopefully will cost him his job;I live on a highway now and see many overweight 18 wheelers cutting through on FM roads and tearing them up;there will no doubt be a huge truck stop close by with tired drivers in and out and prob. a new McDonalds close by. This is not what I want to see when I visit the Big Bend area with my grandchildren and this is not what I want my tax dollars spent on.

I support the no alterntive decision in both the ttc and this project. There is too large of an environmental impact for these projects. Mexican trucks are not safe, Mexican security (there is an oxy moron) is nil, American security is just about as lax, IMPEACH RICK PERRY, and add term limits to the senate and congress of the USA. REMEMBER THE ALAMO.

Growing up in Alpine, I took for granted the clean air, and the quiet, slow life that the Big Bend area offers. Please don't take away one of the last few places that people can go to get away from it all. I miss the area and would hate to have to go home to a different place. Keep it natural and keep it real!!!

We do not need cheap goods produced by "slave labor" from the Communist government in China coming to the USA through wilderness areas of Mexico. No trucks. No trains. No way. Boycott items made in China until they cease human rights violations. This project benefits no one on the local, national or global scale except for Plutocracies. Think for yourself!!!

i think that land should be preserved for animals and cities that have been there forever. bringing in a big highway will only make more pollution and hurt the community already there.

In this day and age we need to pay more attention to the importance of small local economies, and the economy of west Texas is based on tourism. The lack of pollution and traffic is what people love about this part of country, hundreds of trucks coming through everyday will devastate the tourist industry, and cause more poverty for the people.

Big Bend is one of my favorite places on earth precisely because it is so remote and isolated and primitive. Having hundreds of trucks a day go through the area would ruin much of what I love about it.

West Texas represents the history, culture and beauty of the old west. Corporate executives who only care about increasing their wealth have little regard for this. Please do not allow greed take over this beautiful part of the United States.

The Big Bend area is being destroyed and we HAVE to stop it. They want more trains to go through Alpine? The rail system cannot handle more traffic, as it is there was already a derailment today spilling hazardous material all over. Luckily the train had not made it into town yet. But I think that is a sign of the dangers to come if we allow more trains and 18-wheelers plowing through our country. They are going to tear up our country and pollute it. Don't let them do this

Please, please don't destroy one of the few unspoiled, magical places we have left, in Texas and the entire nation! My sisters and I visited pure, peaceful, charming Marfa 2 years ago, stayed at the Paisano Hotel. We heard the train at 5:30 each morning at the crossing on the main street. We want to go back. Don't kill this oasis! Save it for our children and their children.

If the people living in Marfa and the Big Bend area do not want to be connected to the outside world then they should have their wishes respected.

I've been waiting until my health is better to go visit Big Bend and Marfa. Although a more modern road would make the trip faster, faster is not necessarily better. I'd like to keep some parts of the world, my world, my Texas, "unimproved," left au natural, as nature made it. Why do we need this? Spend the money to improve health care, education, etc. As a matter of fact, this project directly negates an important part of saving the environment- that is, to buy locally. I don't want a route to make it easier to transport products from far away- at a cost of using up natural resources like oil at a faster rate, negative environmental impact, and trashing of pure surroundings. Don't believe it when they tell you they will consider the local areas- they will consider the money! They don't understand that money cannot buy back the land.

I'm weary of continual attacks by TxDOT and commercial interests which are ruining Texas in the name of "better roads". The toll roads have done NOTHING for the congestion in Austin, and roads near Big Bend will ruin the entire area. It's time to put a stop to the endless greed.

Please help me fight to keep the Lalinda Bridge closed and torn down, and work to get the soft crossings open again.
