The management at the WMWCentre was insisting that our dog, Robbie, a medium sized Half-Breed (Mom a Beagle, Father a Husky), wear a muzzle while in the building. She believed this would be good for the well-being and comfort of everyone that lives here.
There had been a few complaints about his size when we first moved in. Poor Robbie was nervious and unsure of himself, it was a big change for him. Any little noise he would start and jump and growl. One incident that happened was actually my fault. Robbie was always on a short lead when in the building but on this occasion I opened the door and missed putting the lead on his collar. He ran ahead and growled and bared his teeth at the person standing by the elevator. He did not go close to her. Of course this scared her and she complained to the management. The other was when a small dog lunged and growled at Robbie but his owner said that Robbie was the aggressor. The Board of Directors was petitioned to notify us that Robbie would have to wear a muzzle.
We complied for a few months but saw how this was affecting him (Robbie) and stopped. I notified the management of this.
Now, six months later the management has stated that a few people are still complaining and the muzzle should go back on. I said no, so she hinted that we might consider moving.
Robbie is an old man (11), medium sized dog who has mellowed in his old age. He is afraid of noises (specially thunder) and plays well with children. For the last year he has been visiting a friend of ours at The Villiage of Glendale Crossing Retirement Home and all of the residents and staff who meet him enjoy his visits.
